Question about Ethernet adapter

Hello!
The driver station laptop for my team went bust at an event while it was being used for scouting. The laptop we replaced it with does not have an integrated Ethernet port. Is it legal to use a usb-to-ethernet adapter on the field?

If it is legal will it cause any problems? It’s USB 3 so speed should not be too much of an issue.

Thank you!

Quite a few teams with newer laptops use USB to Ethernet adapters, as they wouldn’t be able to connect otherwise. You should be good.

As for causing problems, it depends adapter to adapter. Best thing to do is ensure a solid connection and don’t strain it, or you might get a flaky connection.

The laptops for rookies in the KOP don’t have Ethernet ports. Here’s what they get in the KOP. https://www.startech.com/m/Networking-IO/usb-network-adapters/usb-ethernet-adapter~USB2100

Just in case you want to hear it from the manual, R98:

Teams may connect the FMS Ethernet cable to their Driver Station device directly via an
Ethernet pigtail, or with a single-port Ethernet converter (e.g. docking station, USB-Ethernet converter, Thunderbolt-Ethernet converter, etc.).

Thank you very much!
