question about one joystick drive programing

My team has decided that they want to try the one joystick drive.
I got the one joystick program from the first website.
The problem that we are having is, that after I download the program into the controller it is still on two joystick drive.

I have the newest editer and have tried to use both versions of the code on the web site. It says that the code is being transfered over.

So any suggestions would be helpful,
thanks in advance,
James

did you get the 1 joystick drive excerpt and copy and paste it into your code or download a full code with 1 joystick drive? if you copy and pasted it you need to make sure you changed the serout to match the new variables.

I got the entire code from
http://innovationfirst.com/FIRSTRobotics/documentation.htm

like I say when I puch cntrl r it says that the program is going over, but I get no change in the contrlos.

thanks for any help

do you have your left motor connected to either pwm 15 or 16 and you right on 13 or 14? If not, thats probably why its not working.

that is exactly what the problem was…I just figured it out and was posting to say what I found out, I was not the one who set up the wiring, so I of course thought it was correct, I just found that out in my problem solving.

Thank you so much for the help

James

our team tried one joystick driving but it didnt go over very well with the drivers so we switched back to the steering wheel plus 1 joystick. it all depends on the drive system you use and what the drivers want.

acckkk… maybe it’s just me, but I can’t imagine having more than one joystick to drive with???:ahh:

Whenever I see a team using two joystick drive, I always feel sorry for them… 4 times out of 5 it means they’re using the default program. We made the switch from 2 joystick to one many years ago, and have never looked back.

We have both systems working right now, but we haven’t decided yet…

We’ll probably just leave it up to whoever will be the driver

for a while we used the trigger on one of the joysticks to switch between dual and single control… The trigger on the other joystick rotated our axis 180 degrees (the back became the front) and would turn it into 1 joystick control. We removed the dual joy option for the competition incase we accidently forgot to hit the button.

I was orginally sold on the 2 joystick method, regardless of default program or not, and can drive quite well using that method, but…after seeing it in one joystick mode and how easly others can learn to drive it, I think I am sold on the one joystick drive

For many people, myself included, two joystick drive feels more natural than one joystick drive - especially for tank-type drivetrains. Last year’s robot allowed us to switch between one and two joystick, so if you needed an extra hand to mess with the other controls, you could have it.
It depends on what you are used to. I drove my grandpa’s skidloader long before I ever played Descent or Zappazoids or whatever.

again its ur drivers preference. ours is supposedly interchangeble this year.

I personally hate one Joystick. I find itvery unnatural and much harder to use that two sticks for tank drive.
