I would like to see a major change in the game for this year to level out the playing field for all teams, young and old. Some of the newer teams have no chance against the vetran teams.

I’m not Eric, but I do have an answer to your latest question:
The one thing I’d like most to change is to PUH-LEEEEZE let us have our robots for a couple days after each competition, like in all past years except for 2000.

HECK YEAH, GOOD QUESTION!!
More emphasis on building a strong team from within. Having FIRST encourage every team to be of today’s Chairman’s Award quality. For the adults to pay constant attention to the students and for the students to be totally involved. I think that if every team is as pursuant of success as ones in the past who have been successful, we will see FIRST changing more lives than they know what to do with. You don’t need to be a ‘big money’ team to change people’s lives, and you don’t need a big money sponsor to do that either. You need people who feel positive aout what they are doing; people who what others to feel positive about it as well. And from this will come: POSITIVE REACTIONS! For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It needs to be stressed that the robot isn’t the only important thing. I feel personally that if it was, I wouldn’t have gotten what I and so many others have out of FIRST to this day.
Two thumbs up for more emphasis on building a better team from within, then working on the robot. Who knows, maybe one will effect the other if the proper precaution has been taken.

One of the biggest problems of last year was that the loud speakers were stationed next to the drivers and coaches! We could barely communicate with the extra noise. FIRST should try have the speakers as far away from the drivers as possible.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I will suggest that the one thing I would like changes is to regionalize the Nationals.
I have made the case elsewhere, but basically I think that this will:
#1 Make the Nationals more fun for all.
#2 Make the Nationals more exciting (with the finals on the Main Stage at the Award Ceremony)
#3 Allow more teams to go home winners (each group could have Rookie All-stars, Best Defense, etc.)
For this and many more reasons, I hope FIRST gives me a late christmas gift by adopting this proposal for the Nationals in 2001.

Let us keep the robot the entire season, from the end of the build to the nationals.
I think this would do more to even the playing field than anything.
Let the rookies practice and improve their machine.
