Hi all, this is a very simple question this week, but im doin this one to settle a score with some buddies. This question is dedicated to all those who made Bash at the Beach so much fun for me yesterday. So here it is…
Question 9/24/00: Is it a BAR-LOK or a Tie Wrap? speaking of course of those little clicky cable tie things.
I SAY BAR-LOK!!! (go team Bar-Lok)

It’s a BAR-LOK!!! My reasoning: if you call a milling machine a Bridgeport, then you should call cable ties Bar-Loks.
One creative use for BAR-LOKS: Use them to put your hair in a ponytail.

And hey, speaking of unusual uses for them, one of my goofy students used a bunch of them to lock up every cupboard and cabinet in my chemistry room last year while the rest of us were working on robot design!

Hello All,
I just want to assure all of you mis-guided soles who believe that tie-wraps are called bar-locks that you are wrong. I have spoken to engineering itself, Eric Rasmussen, and he has signed on as a member of Team Tie-Wrap. I’m sorry, but we all need a new vocab word everyonce and a while.
TIE-WRAPS FOR EVER!!!

While the rest of the country wonders if we have ‘lost it’ in New England. This tie-wrap/bar-lok controversy will go on for a while. Using them as pony tail ties was cute and I guess I am glad no one tried to slip one through their pierced ear hole.
Bash was a Blast as I have heard the Big E is (which continues for one more week) We can never get enough FIRST.

::laughing hysterically::
I was wondering when this would finally be put up on the forum…this ranks up there with the ‘coloring of the yellow ball with sharpies to call it black’ and ‘unplugging the playing field at the end of the match’…both of which I have pictures of…I can’t believe it! I took 120 pics!
Anyway, I’m going to sit on the fence on this one, but I just wanted to comment. Oh, and to give advice: never put one of those contravercial little things on your finger, you never know when they’ll haul off & cut your circulation :

I definitely have to agree with Joe J and Justin. Those things are tie wraps and should not be called anything else. =)
Jess, I definitely agree with you. Whilst setting up for River Rage 2K, I happen to use one as a bracelet, only to my surprise, I had put it on too tight. I started losing circulation in my left hand, which began turning a lovely shade of purple. =) I ran around trying to find someone to cut it off, so I could have my hand back. =)
Take it easy,
~Linda

Where do you people get off call them anything else!
I MAY allow an occassional ‘zip tie’ as long as it is kept to a minumum

For me, i’ve always called them either wire ties or zip ties…as for the Bar-Lok people(which I’ve never heard, BTW,) i think that goes back to the ‘one brand is kleenex, so do you call all brands that?’ question…

OK, I did quick search in the US Patent and Trademark Office. There were 35 instances of patents that used the words ‘tie wraps’ to describe a device that hold together cables, wires, etc. I also did a search of for ‘bar-lok’ and ‘barlok’ and found nothing. If the US Patent office recoginizes ‘tie wraps’ as the common term to describe this mechanism then who are we to argue?
