Our team is wondering about a new rule R406.C. The rules says that numbers can not be spaced more than 2” between each individual letter. We only found out about this rule after they had already been made with incorrect spacing. We looked over the inspection checklist and we didn’t see that it mentioned the 2” spacing. Will a bumper number spacing of >2” be a problem?
The inspection checklist isn’t an exhaustive list of rules. You’re still responsible for following all the rules, regardless of whether they’re on the checklist or not, and the end of the checklist asks for two team members to attest that the team hasn’t knowingly violated any rules.
IMO, better to be safe than sorry here.
I agree with @alst on both counts. If I inspected a robot and noted digits more than 2" apart, [and barring a Q&A or rule change] I wouldn’t pass it without consulting with the LRI. You wouldn’t have to challenge it, I’d mark it as something to check with the LRI as I was inspecting the bumpers. Of course, if it’s 2⅛" or so, I suggest closing the gap by using a white paint pen.
Won’t be a problem anymore. This rule was changed in Team Update 15.
