Quick test, help!

I want to do a quick test, (the CMUcam2) and after reading a post here about a camera exploding I don’t want to do anything wrong.

  1. I have connected a serial cable from the RS232 Port to the computer.

  2. Using a PWM wire, I connected the wire from the “Power Input” (on camera) to PWM0? (on the RC Controller) set to 127.

  3. Using a PWM wire I connected a wire from the RS232 (3-pin) to a TTL-232 adapter.

  4. Turned the Robot on.

  5. Turned the Power Switch on (on the camera).

  6. Ran the program on the computer.

I’m most concerned about step #2, What must the PWM be set to?
pwm0? = 127; or pwm0? = ???

Please reply as soon as possible, am I missing something, am I doing something wrong?

Replying to my own question, I believe the connection between “Power Input” (on camera) and a PWM output (on RC controller). Is just a simple connection between the 7.2v backup battery and and the “Power Input” on the camera. So as long as that pwn is not used, it does not matter what the pwn0? is defined as.

(I hope I’m right.)

And so the TTL-232 sends a signel to the RC controller through air? :confused:

the ttl litle thingie connects to the rc trough some 4 pins titled ttl(near the relay outputs)
our electronics team actually thought it was supposed to emit a radio signal of its own, but they were proven wrong(I didn’t actually get it working, but withought conecting it definetly refuses to communicate with the rc)

I have been able to test the camera on the computer, so the steps taken to test the camera were correct.

There is a TTL port located on the RC controller.
I believe a four pin wire should be connected from the “TTL-232” to the TTL port located on the RC Controller. (From “CMUcam2 RS232 3pin” to “TTL-232” to “RC Controller TTL port”)

“Connect the PWM cable connected to the RS232 PORT, (3-pin) connection of the Camera to the TTL-232 Adapter observing the position of the black wire of the PWM cable in relation to the label on the TTL-232 Adapter printed circuit board.
Lay the adapter on top of the RC for the time being. This will connect to the TTL data port on the RC.”

**Warning? **“Be sure to have only one RS232 port cable attached to the camera at a time.” (From what I understand I am not suppose to have a serial cable attached to the computer from the Cam, and the TTL-232 device connected to the RC at the same time.)

OK, after reading around I have came across this:
“The RS-232 converter board is design to mount directly onto the Robot Controller, no cable is required.”

I believe the “RS-232 converter board” is refering to the “TTL-232.”
So… Just connect the “TTL-232-CONVERTER” directly to the RC controller. :rolleyes:
