Quote for Thought

I found the following quote and thought it’d make for an interesting discussion/debate.

“If winning isn’t everything, why do they keep score?” - Vince Lombardi

Let’s pretend “they” are the members of the FIRST board who create the game each year.

Obviously, “they” refers to not the FIRST officials, but instead the super-secret government organization THEY, who watch over us and pick out the most skilled youths to fight their war on other secret organizations…

But seriously, I hope THEY don’t read this or I’m a goner…

If you understand the quote, what he is asking/stating is that we keep score so we know who the winner is. He’s not questioning why we keep score, rather he is telling us that we keep score so we know who has won. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Vince said “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” And he’s right. He also said “In great attempts it is glorious even to fail.” It’s the process and how much effort you put into it.

If you look at all of Vince’s quotes and his speech on winning (http://www.vincelombardi.com/about/speech.html) you can see that he talks about effort and preparation - much like the build season. Attitude is everything and hard work and perseverance always pay off in the end. His quotes seem to tell a story about the human spirit. Great stuff indeed!

Great idea for a thread!

keeping score also shows that there is always room for improvement. [Im sure that I would have something better to say were it not almost 2am… Mayhaps I will try again in the morning]
