R45 Fully insulated - some examples?

What constitutes fully insulated? Looking at the main breaker, to fully insulate that would be a trick since the lug exits at 90deg from the stud.

Please post example pictures of how you’ve fully insulated main breaker terminals. Aiming to pass our rookie robot inspection first time around!

Electrical tape works for the main breaker. Wrap it all the way around and up an 1.5 inches on the output wires. Bonus points if you color code the tape.

We’ve wrapped the lugs in electrical tape and called it a day. No inspector has had a problem with it.

Agree with the above comments… electrical tape. This is what we tell teams when we inspect their robot, just completely cover any visible metal part of the terminal with tape. The little rubber cap provided is not enough.

Ideally, you’d use the proper size heat-shrink tubing around all of your wires, covering all metal except for what needs to contact to transmit electricity.

In practice though, electrical tape around the exposed bits will do fine, as others have said.

Right, so fully insulated = sticky tape
Okay got it thanks!

No, use proper electrical tape. Pull it so it forms around the lugs and nuts etc.

Sticky tape could be masking tape. And definitely do not use #8 fencing wire as other Kiwis might

Wow. We’ve used the rubber caps for more than ten years and never had an inspection issue.

Ha ha, was just kidding about “sticky tape”. We’ll use some self amalgamating tape rather than just PVC or vinyl tape.

Just depends on the LRI.

We currently use heat shrink on the lugs, then where it attaches directly to the breaker, coat it in hot melt to cover it even more (not required though).
