I’m wondering if I’ve missed any news or chatter about the radio hardware updating from the OM5P-ACs in the near future? We’ve got 2 functional radios and one with a busted antenna. Makes me nervous throwing any money at discontinued hardware, but we could really use a third radio. I want to make sure we’re not wasting cash if we buy another OM5P.
Until they announce something I am almost certain that the radios will be legal in 2023. Hopefully this is something that is addressed in coming seasons (maybe for 2024) as the OM5P-AC are at EOL. But so far the chatter is quite low and it wasn’t updated for either the new control system or RIO, both which more teams will be upgrading in next year or two, if they didn’t already.
If it helps, even if the radio isn’t legal in future seasons, they’ll probably still be fine for practice just like the old DLinks are. I don’t see first ditching the Ethernet/IP based communications anytime soon.
Speaking of radios being just fine for practice- you can use pretty much any off the shelf router as long as you can flash it with ddwrt or openwrt. The configuration is pretty simple otherwise.
