We can always use volunteers for all positions, but at this time we are in particular need of referees and setup/teardown assistance. Register at http://www.rampriot.com/be-a-volunteer.

Confirmation emails were sent to all of our registered volunteers on 10/13. If you believe that you had already registered but did not receive an email, please drop us a line at rampriot@team341.com

We just sent another update for Ramp Riot, including the event Information Packet. If you are a registered team and did not receive the below message, let us know!

Hello Ramp Riot teams!

We wanted to send another update with Ramp Riot happenings, including the all-powerful Information Packet, which is attached. There are some awesome things happening that I’ll highlight in future emails but for now can you:

Respond to this email with your team social head count
Let us know as soon as you can if you’re attending our team social on Saturday night from 5:00-8:00 PM! It will help us plan the amount of games and food trucks to book. Let us know the amount of people ASAP!!

Get your team started on our book and candy drives!!
Each year, we ask that teams donate items towards a charity that helps our surrounding community. We have typically collected cans of food, but this year we are changing it up a bit.

For Ramp Riot XX we are asking for books for students aged kindergarten through 8th grade who will be participating in the Reading Olympics . These books will directly benefit our district’s local homework club, called WAC Homework Cares.

WAC provides elementary school students the opportunity to work with “homework helpers” – middle and high school students and staff who volunteer their time to help younger students. Activities include reading, doing homework, computer instruction and supervised time on board games or active games. The team with the most books delivered will win the Mike Wade Memorial Award.

The book list for elementary school students is located here:

The book list for middle school students is located here:

When you purchase a book, write it in this spreadsheet to avoid too many duplicates:

Please contribute to this worthwhile cause in Mike Wade’s memory.

In addition to the book collection, we have also decided to take donations of leftover Halloween candy for Operation Gratitude . Given the proximity to Halloween, we suspect that a lot of Halloween candy will be available just a couple days after this holiday. Operation Gratitude uses candy as part of their care packages that they send to service men and women.

Don’t forget about our two charity drives!!

Pit layout change

There have been some adjustments made to the pit layout. A new one is included in the Info Packet linked above. The numbers are far from in order but we tried to accommodate some specific team needs:

  • Team 11 is mentoring pre-rookie team 8811 (yay! )
  • 2539 is bringing a secondary bot, 9539
  • …and the Maryland teams asked if they could sit together be next to each other

Hopefully everyone is accommodating and finds the pits to be a bit roomier this year since we have 6 less teams. That means more room and more matches for the rest of us!

Schedule change

Our marching band said they couldn’t come at 4:00 PM anymore. We had to move them up to 3:30 PM, which puts them in the middle of matches. Sorry! Best laid plans… we’ll just have a musical interlude before the last few matches of Saturday.

Saturday night’s team social is 

We’ve never hosted a team social before but goshdarnit we are doing our best to make it as fun as possible! So far we have:

  • 3 food trucks
  • Giant lawn games
  • Karaoke
  • Card making for service men/women
  • A movie screening over the field
  • …and a highly-anticipated appearance by one of our Wissahickon teachers who is going to be leading a fun dance class. My students are raving about it and I’m pretty excited.

Thank you to everyone who let us know you were coming!

Think you have the fastest bot in town?

Put it to the test! We’re running an hour of fun “time trial” rounds over lunch on Saturday. There’s no cost to enter except for a willingness to drive and place game pieces really fast. Check out Page 14 of our Info Packet. You might even win something special. 

With power being out all over the area, including Wissahickon HS, is there any change to the schedule for Ramp Riot? (Including load in tonight after 5PM?)

Hello Ramp Riot teams!

An urgent message for you about team load-in this evening.

Last night our town sustained significant damage from storms and school was cancelled for today. Our maintenance staff was gracious enough to let us in for the day so that we could finish with Ramp Riot setup and prepare for your arrival.

Unfortunately, the school will only be open until 7 PM tonight . If you were planning to load-in, please do so prior to our closing at 7 PM. Due to this change, we will open to teams tomorrow morning a half hour earlier, at 6:30 AM.
