Re: Connecting hub sprockets to shafts

Other on team #639, Red B^2, from Ithaca High School and Cornell University.

Thanks to all who posted advice regarding connecting the sprockets to shafts. After some hard work trying to convince others on the team, we took the advice of Raul and Paul. We were able to machine a hole centered exactly tangential to the inner circumference of the hub… We even managed to cram a square peg (keystock) in a round hole! Anyway, it appears to work very nicely on our drive system and I see no possible way of breaking it.

Thanks again!

HEY PAT. I’M GLAD YOU DECIDED TO TRY THE PIN SET UP. YOU DON’T HAVE TO USE KEY STOCK THOUGH, A HARDEND AND GROUND DOWEL PIN WORKS WELL TOO. AND FITS IN ROUND HOLES A LITTLE EASIER. GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR AND I HOPE TO SEE YOU IN THE PITS. I’LL BE WITH THE TEAM WHOSE BOT IS HAVING A NERVOUS BREAK DOWN FROM THE SHEAR ENORMITY OF THE TASKS FOR WHICH WE ARE FORCING TO DO THIS YEAR!!
