ReadTheDocs: move/hide flyout menu

I’m new to FRC/WPILib. ReadTheDocs is used extensively on these sites. How do I move or hide the flyout menu, since it sometimes covers what I am trying to read on the page?

Also, any way to block the popup ads it spews out?

Thanks

works pretty well for me

What popup ads?

It’s really unfortunate that they moved it out of the sidebar. RTD used to inject there, but now it’s on the side (ugh).

Above the flyout, imploring you to signup for something…

So far, if I’m desperate, I inspect the html and delete the flyout menu node. However, this is only an immediate fix for the annoyance will appear on any new page visited.

Can you provide a screenshot of the “flyout” that you’re seeing? I’m looking at the docs on my phone, and not seeing anything that covers the content besides the small version selector at the bottom of the page. While possibly annoying, it isn’t covering a significant amount of content. This is without an ad blocker. (I also don’t see anything covering content on a desktop with an ad blocker.)

ReadTheDocs claims that ads should only be showing up in one of a few specific places, not popups, and this matches my experience on several ReadTheDocs-hosted sites.

The fly out is small. but if the page doesn’t scroll then you cannot see that portion of the page. When dealing with software code, a little can count for a lot.

As for the ads, it is not a typical ad. It like the fly out are being injected into the HTML by the server. I can delete that node too but it’s easier just to click the little x on the popup. Unfortunately the fly out has no x.

So, it seems, there is no way to move or disable the fly out, much less prevent the ads, other than my fix of deleting the HTML node in the source. So it goes, the price of progress.

The best way to remove the ads is to use an ad blocker. I cannot recommend uBlock Origin, mentioned earlier in this thread, enough; though if you’re still using Google Chrome (like me) you’ll have to use uBlock Origin Lite in a few months when Chrome drops support for Manifest V2. Either way, I would recommend an ad blocker not just for not looking at this particular ad, or for the fact that it significantly improves your web browsing experience; using an ad blocker increases your privacy and security when browsing the web.

Also, like @Joe_Ross, I didn’t know there was an ad there until just now, because I always browse with an ad blocker. Highly recommended.

My ad blocker got turned off. Fixed that and popup ads went away. Tried uBlock and so far a great app. Thanks for the suggestion.
