After a successful closed beta program, Real Life Data is kicking off an open beta for all FRC teams for FREE!
We have gotten a lot of interest on Chief Delphi and had far more interest in the closed beta than we expected, so we’ve decided to open our beta up to all FRC teams for the 2024 season!
The open beta will kick off in early January and every team will be able to use the Real Life Data platform to design and use their own Digital Scouting Application (DSA).
What is Real Life Data?
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Real Life Data, we are a platform for creating data centric applications that requires no prior expertise. Our platform allows you to create digital applications that easily run on any device and can store and retrieve data from the cloud in real time. Applications made with our platform are capable of offline work, and can be utilized in environments with limited connectivity. We even give you the ability to interface directly with the FIRST event database to pre-populate data. The best part is we are offering this tool to you and your team completely FREE.
Sounds too good to be true
We know all this might sound too good to be true. Our team is filled with FIRST alumni, mentors, and volunteers. We are so thankful for what FIRST has done for us and we want to give back. That is why we are offering our software for FREE while it’s in beta to any and all FIRST teams. Yes, it’s in beta so there will be some bugs and issues here and there, but we wanted to make sure you could try RLD and help us get through the beta risk free.
Is there a way to get it ahead of January 1 so we can start exploring it over break before kickoff? Once January 1 rolls around a lot of teams won’t have time to dig into something new.
@runneals We appreciate the interest. Unfortunately we are just finishing up our closed beta. We would love to make the software available early but we are currently working hard to implement the bug fixes and features from the feedback we got.

We are hard at work making sure everything is ready for the 2024 season. We will be making another announcement about the open beta soon. For now I can tell you it will be available by the 6th (kickoff).

Among some bug fixes, this update focused on helping teams share their Scouting Apps with ease, helping rookies teams get started or experienced teams share their knowledge.

But you’re not the only one asking, there is a feature request on our discord for this and there has been some conversation about it.
We decided to turn it off because it can be really hard to make sure all admins see changes in real time (like google docs). If they don’t it can cause serious issues.
It’s possible that we have multiple admins working by 2025 season.
Track Autonomous Paths and Teleop Positions. With our newly added position map features you can now easily track autonomous paths and robot positions on the field at any point in the match. With our 3 new graphs types and input methods (Position Map, Path Map, and Heatmap) you can quickly see how to plan autonomous programs and coordinate field usage during teleop.
We have also updated our Field Management to be more intuitive and easily show you where and when fields are used inside your project.

Bug fixes and Multi-line Input. Hey guys, a quick update before week 1 starts. We have fixed a large swath of bugs to make sure your experience is as smooth as possible. We also added multi-line input on input forms. This should make things like comments a bit easier to track for your data entry.

Quality of Life and New Input Elements. We finally got a chance to see how RLD is used at competitions and have worked out a number of quality of life fixes to help make the experience as smooth as possible. We have also added a new input element for input forms and would love to hear any suggestions you may have about other types of input elements to include in RLD!

Over the course of this season we have seen more than 100 teams use RLD, 2.3 MILLION datapoints have been entered, and the season isn’t even over yet! We are continuing to update the system and in this update have put out improvements to offline data collection, improving its feature set and reliability. We have also improved the user experience for viewing data.
