I am making this post to announce the recent recognition that an inspirational educator has received in his community, Coach Norman Morgan, a respected athletics coach turned robotics mentor.
Coach, as he is known to his students, was recently honored by a Resolution from the Texas Congress. State Representative Donna Howard sponsored the resolution, which praised his working in improving STEM Education in Texas and his role in making our robotics program what it is.
Coach was also honored by the Center for Digital Education as one of the “Top 40 Innovators in Education” in their latest publication.
Finally, he was selected as the Capitol BEST Hub Mentor of the year last season.
All these recognitions cited his Woodie Flowers Finalist Award, his 2002 and 2007 Westlake Teacher of the Year awards, his role on the LEGO Education Advisory Panel (LEAP), his role on the Capitol BEST Board, his participation on the National Instruments Elite Educators program, how he was in the first cohort of Partnership for Teacher Excellence Program (PTEP) in Eanes ISD, and, of course, his role in founding and growing the Chap Robotics program. Chap Robotics is the robotics program for the Eanes Independent School District. It includes one high school FRC team, four high school FTC teams, and 2 middle school BEST teams, of which all advanced past their respective regional/district levels last year. Coach acts the CEO of the program, and is the fuel behind its success. Last year the program was honored with awards, including a FRC Regional Chairman’s Award, a FRC Regional Winners Award, a FTC Regional Championship Inspire Award, and several FTC District Winning Alliance and Inspire Awards. The supporting courses for Chap Robotics include Robotics 1, Robotics 2, Robotics 3 and Robotics FTC, all taught by Coach Norman Morgan, and a Digital Electronics & Electricity course and a Engineering Design and Presentation course (CAD) taught by Tim Jordan.
