Recording Equipment

Although I know we’re going to need a VCR, does anyone know what else I would need (such as cable types) to record the Annapolis competition we’ll be attending in a few days?

Thanks,
Greg

You’ll want to take a VCR as well as taking some RCA type cables just in case the others are all being used, they usualy have video cables but you might have to patch through someone elses feed.

Its also good we have found to have a VCR with a record level control so you can set how loud its going to record and adjust accourdingly.

Set the vcr recording speed to either EP or LP to get the most outa the tapes.
You’ll probably want 5 or 6 tapes just to be safe.
We have 2 tapes each day usualy but check them often to make sure they aren’t out yet.

We also have a small 5 inch monitor that we take to check the recordning and make sure its all working before we leave it sit all day. Nothing worse then getting home (or back to the hotel if your nerds like us with an extra tv/vcr combo for your hotel room) and watching blank tapes.

Thanks!!

Greg

Good look on your tapes!

All of the regionals I have attended over the years and the Nationals all have had what is termed a “press box” and AC strips for recording. You get a feed of whatever is going to the big screen.(and that feed has all the scoring info after each match, but not the seeding/standing list.) This device provides audio and video on RCA phono jacks. You can pick up a nice set of cables for under $10 at Radio Shack or any electronics store. (Best Buy, etc.) These cables will have two for audio(stereo) and one for video. You may want to bring an RCA “y” cord (two females to one male)in case there is not enough outputs for stereo operation if that is what you are recording. I change tapes at the lunch break so there will be 4 tapes altogether.

Bring a notebook with a Dazzle USB Video Capture Device… that way you will get great quality and portablitiy (you wont be luggin VHS tapes around). I think it will be also much cheaper.

If you want nice cables go with this company “monster” they make really nice cables.

Thats my 2 cents
