Recruiting for Community team

Hi,

We are recruiting for a community team in Sunnyvale, CA. Please reach out if you are looking for a team.

Thanks,

Is this recruiting for students? Mentors? Both?

Regardless, your cross-section of Chief Delphi is almost entirely very involved individuals who are committed to their teams. What other avenues are you using for recruitment? Speaking from experience, recruiting from CD is really, really difficult.

We are looking for both. 2 - 3 more students and paid mentors. I do understand its hard in this forum but was just checking to see anyways if anyone is looking for a team.

In all seriousness though, one thing my team did (back when they were a community team) to help recruit students, was have T-shirts made up that had on the back “ask me about my robotics team”. It actually worked surprisingly well.

Does your team have sponsors? Ask your sponsors to put it out to their employees that you want mentors and offer to pay them (seems like thats already your plan). Your sponsors can also spread the word that you’re looking for students to their employees and employees with students might be interested in looking into your team.

Fair enough! I would recommend adding that information to the title of this thread then. Who you’re looking for, the fact that its paid, where it is, etc

Thanks! Our team is primarily from one school and parents funded since the school is small and cannot support the infrastructure. Since we are a community team and we need 2 -3 more kids I wanted to see if anyone is looking for a team.

Recruiting for a community team in an area densely populated with existing FRC teams can be tough. On the student side I’d recommend reaching out to schools that don’t have a team and have your existing students post on their social media.

For mentors, I echo the advice to reach out to your sponsors. It’s also worth to call/email your Regional Director (Luan Heimlich) to see if they know of anyone looking to mentor.

I have a close contact at a San Jose high school that does not have an FRC team. They had a Vex and FTC team a while ago but I don’t think those teams are currently active. Let me know if you might be interested in pursuing that connection. I know Sunnyvale and San Jose are not the same  but they’re not too far apart.

Sure! Which school is it?

It helps to plug stuff like the fact that (last I knew), y’all work out of the sweet new MakerNexus facility - so there’s plenty of tooling that’ll start becoming available as Eric gets it built out. Normally there’s a membership fee to that facility, which you could consider covering for an active mentor.

MakerNexus is recruiting paid workshop teachers for both FRC & other student maker activities (FPV drones, sumobot, etc), at fair rates for living in the South Bay. Active FRC mentors looking for a change of pace should definitely look into it and contact them… https://www.makernexus.com/
