Red/Yellow Cards

So i saw the first cards that i have ever seen this weekend.
Can somebody explain how they work?
Thanks
Matt

Same as in soccer.

Or, for a more in-depth answer, turn to Section 9.6.3.

9.6.3 Yellow and Red Card Rules
<T05> The Head Referee may assign a YELLOW CARD as a warning of egregious ROBOT or team member behavior. This will occur at the completion of a match, before the field is reset, and will be indicated by the Head Referee standing in front of the team’s PLAYER STATION and holding a yellow card in the air. In the first match that a team receives a YELLOW CARD, it acts as a warning.
<T06> After a team receives a YELLOW CARD, a yellow flag will be placed on their ROBOT at the beginning of all subsequent matches as a reminder to the team, the referees, and the audience that they have been issued a YELLOW CARD.
<T07> A team will be issued a RED CARD (disqualification) in any subsequent match that they receive an additional YELLOW CARD. This will occur at the completion of a match, before the field is reset, and will be indicated by the Head Referee standing in front of the team’s PLAYER STATION and holding a yellow card and red card in the air simultaneously. The team will still carry their YELLOW CARD into subsequent matches.
<T08> YELLOW CARDS do not carry forward between qualification matches and elimination matches. All teams move into the elimination matches with a clean slate.
<T09> If a team is disqualified during a match for a reason other than receiving an additional YELLOW CARD, they will receive a RED CARD. This will occur at the completion of a match, before the field is reset, and will be indicated by the Head Referee standing in front of the team’s PLAYER STATION and hold a red card in the air.
<T10> During the qualification matches, a team that receives a RED CARD will receive zero ranking points and zero qualification points. The rest of the team’s in their ALLIANCE will still receive the earned qualification points and ranking points.
<T11> During the elimination matches, a team receiving a RED CARD will cause the disqualification of their entire ALLIANCE for that match.

Curie Qualification Match 92: 33, 573, 1386 vs 1013, 1477, 462. Anybody who saw it might have been as frustrated as I was, which is a slight notch below how frustrated Jim Zondag was when he realized what was about to happen. Something tells me a Red Flag was in order in that situation but ultimately it is the Head Ref’s decision. Mr. Zondag, my heart goes out to you on that one and I’m glad your team still got picked and made it to the eliminations, I only wish I could say the same for my own. By the way, what was the damage report on the 33 bot after that match (electrical damage?).

Does disqualification meen you are disqualified from the match you recieved the red card in and only that match or does it mean you are disqualified from that match and all other qualification matches you are in?

Current match only (you would get 0 SP, 0 Coopertition, and 0 FiM points)
It carries forward as a yellow card for all future matches. Edit Until eliminations, when you get a clean slate again.
Red Card in eliminations means automatic loss (for the alliance).

Does anybody think there is a ridiculous number of cards this year? In my previous two seasons I cant ever remember seeing any team carded. This year though, I have seen many including my team getting a red for being stuck under the opponents tunnel. In soccer, cards are reserved for violent/malignant action. This year, if you accidentally extend past your frame perimeter for more than 2 seconds you get a yellow. Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous?

I think the addition of an optional clause for yellow card on G30 was very much needed. The GDC probably didn’t expect the number of accidental raisings of the lifting mechanisms

At FLR we saw a red card in finals. And I actually have to say they deserved it. The card was from the 1 defender in far zone at any time. 610 tipped over and fell into far, the other team made no attempt to leave. It looked like 610 E-Stopped thinking it would allow the 2nd bot, but I think the drivers should have known the rules better and gotten their tails out of there.

I do agree though that the cards are a little strict this year. We got a red card in qualifications for being pushed into the ball return side of the tower with our hanger while trying to catch the side. We go for side, opponent pushes us (now that I think about it they should have gotten a card for hanging bot protection since we may have touched the tower), our arm bounces off side and catches on ball return side :frowning:
