Remember that thread? [01-06-05]

Hi Everyone :-). I hope you had a wonderful holiday during the last two weeks!

This week’s Remember that thread? will be the last one of its series. I really enjoyed looking up old threads and sharing the stories with the rest of you. It didn’t matter if little people paid attention to these threads, the journey itself was all that matters.

This week’s “Remember that thread?” spotlight a discussion from the end of 2000 season concerning the “Top Ten Bots” of that game. I myself was a senior in high school back then. It was the first time I really worked hard on my team and paid attention to the rest of FIRST community, it was the first time I opened my eyes for the infinite possibility to come.

Imagine watching web cast of other regionals for the first time, imagine seeing all those pictures and videos you’ve analyzed for weeks come alive in front of you at Florida, imagine finally meeting the people you’ve grown to admire/respect/look up to at Web hug…

Then imagine seeing the Wildstang bot loading 8 balls into their goal, or the Chief Delphi bot going under the limbo bar and extend its telescoping basket high enough to take balls out of the opponent’s goal and hang, or the 25/69 bots rushing to the center bar at the beginning of a match and dominate the entire center structure…

That’s when you realize this program is working, and then you remember you are 5 years later eagerly await the new game coming this weekend, and you realize this program is still working.

Take a close look at the list of bots people are mentioning in the following thread. Then you will realize why we used to talk about the Delphi teams in the forties, the GM teams in the sixties, the UTC teams in the one hundred seventies, and the NASA teams in the two hundred fifties. Only, now, you will learn to be afraid of names like: 16 Baxter Bombsquad, 33 Killer bees, 45 Technokats, 60 Bionic bulldogs, 67 HOT team, 71 Beatty, 111 Wildstang, 254 Cheesy Poofs, 469 Las Guerrillas, 980 Thunder Bots, and so on…

Be prepared for the wildest roller coaster ride of you entire life! Get ready for the F.I.R.S.T. step into your future!

Without Further delay, in the last “Remember that thread?” of the series, I present:
