Hi Everyone :-).
This week’s Remember that thread? have absolutely nothing to do with any current discussions in the Chief Delphi Forum. I chose this thread because I thought it is an interesting one. As I read this thread, it just strikes me how everyone take lots of of things for granted in FIRST. The alliance system, the finals, alliance selection, competition schedule, etc. It’s not like what it used to be when everything was still being figured out, and everyone so energetic at coming up with new ideas.
This week’s “Remember that thread?” spotlight a discussion back in 1999 about seeding calculation. Unlike our generation, the FIRSTers back then haven’t been through the “3 times loser’s score”, “2 times loser’s score + winner’s”, and “qualifying points and rank points”. This is a discussion where FIRST-a-holics tried to figure out the ideal seeding calculation for our tournament style, and had fun pulling equations out of their hats. I think any big fan of math, scores, and ranking will like the discussion in this thread.
Just don’t hurt your head trying to follow the discussion 3am in the morning ;-). Without Further delay, in this week’s “Remember that thread?” I present:
