I must have gotten five negative rep hits by mistake. I can tell because the accompanying comment was actually positive. A reminder: if you are going to give out rep make sure the right rep is chosen before you hit enter. After all , reputations are at stake.
That is all.
Hm… I did that to my friend GregT and Dlavery a while back… was very awkward and now it makes me look at what I click very carefully. Of course I returned the points as soon as I could
At least you can afford it. Some of us down at the bottom don’t want to risk going to the ‘grey’ side.
Does it ever get to red?
–EDIT–
Oh, yeah. And, once I recieved a rep point that was grey (not green or red). How’s that happen? There was no comment with it either.
Grey rep comes from people without any themselves (who are in the “grey” area themselves). Or that’s what I figured after getting some.
I believe a grey square occurs when a person gives you reputation BUT that person does not have enough ‘experience’ to really affect your reputation points.
I think your right. The guy who gave it to me has only 11 posts. And that’s now. The rep was given months ago.
correct. grey means it counted neither negative or positive towards your reputation.
it happens i have a decent nubmer of rep messages but more than half of them are grey, i mnot exactly sure how the system works Could Brandon or someone clarify the systems setup.
One of these nights, I plan on creating a Reputation section in the FAQ. Maybe tonight…
Great Idea! Figuring it out for the first time was kind of rough. I had to search for a while through archaic threads to piece together bits of information on how it worked. There are a lot of specifics that would be handy if they were all in one place.
It’s good to know Brandon is always on top of these things! That’s what makes this the *premier * FIRST community.
Out of curiosity…what competition does it have?
Most of the other FIRST sites I’ve seen aren’t used by very many people…I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d always choose the active site over the one with 20 or so users.
please read this thread started by Justin. It has a great amount of insight on rep points and has alot of good user comments.
Good point. Maybe CD is a monopoly and should be fined and split up by the government. I think FIRST should release an official antitrust policy for online FIRST forums. It’s hard to believe it has gone on this long…
Do grey dots ever change to green/red? Like, when the person who gave them reaches a state where the points they give counts? Or do they stay grey forever?
Better get that FAQ up Brandon!
I used to wonder that as well. Turns out they are not retroactive. If you give them out, the person will just have a nice little message.
And here!
