So I’ve seen many skateboarders, rollerbladers and Bikers but so far no robots!!

I can kinda picture the robots taking the ramps…but I dunno abut durability after one crashes. It would be very likely to happen. I don’t think our bots are THAT tough…some can’t even handle the FIRST matches…lol

Back at the days of 2 vs. 2, we had to build really tough robots for competition… Those were the days when our robot was REALLY tough…
We were pushing, beating, falling, hanging… It was a piece of rock! Trust me, even if it crash down the ramp, it will still play the game fine. We once drove the robot down some stairs, it did a flip and drop on the corner… it worked perfectly right after the drop!
I still remember hearing about how our 1999 robot heavily damage a Delphi robot at Rumble, and that Delphi robot still managed to get on the puck even with the drive train non-functional… I heard it was using its arm to slowly drag itself over to the puck…
Those were the days when other robots were REALLY tough…
Maybe we will see some tough robots next year, maybe we won’t. Either way it won’t really matter, we will all have fun anyway. 
It doesn’t matter how the competition will be next year, as long as the people have gone through the process of changes from one form of competition to another through out the year… It’s the growth that counts. Simply looking at the evolution of the robots are really cool. I only feel bad that some of the people have haven’t seen 2 vs. 2 before, or even 1 vs. 1 vs. 1 back at 1998.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm. I’m thinkin’ big air, droppin’ back in, catchin’ the coping, faceplant… Could be just me but I don’t think any robot could survive that. I realize robots used to “fight” against each other but those were two machines similarly constructed and of similar materials. There’s a difference between that and a cement half-pipe or on a street course. Just my 2 cents, but you can’t buy much with that anymore.

Thats pretty cool that you’re at the XGames trials, I wish I was there cuz I’m a huge skater fan and of xtreme sports. But it does stir up ideas, like extreme robotics almost. lol Like a street course for robots, but the robots would hafta be speedy and agile and be able to ollie, pull 180’s, grind and other cool tricks.
But I also noticed in Florida that there was a small culture of skaters hanging out and maybe someone could set a small session or wateva. It would be cool, we have the materials to set something up. Especially the bridge as a kicker ramp and the bars could be used for grindage or wateva.
Everyone is talking about the subject that the game is too boring to just watch. So this could be an idea for people to be entertained, whether they’re participating or just watching or even trying it for the first time. It would be a great experience. Ok…I’m gunna stop rambling now so check ya’ll later!

The thing is, in mechanical terms, humans are a bunch of gyros put together, giving us the right movements. Therefore, we can do those kind of things. So it would be very difficult, if not currently impossible. And thene there’s also the human “best guess” thinking that would be almost impossible for artificial intelligence to mimic. Of course, with Lord Kamen, anything’s possible.
Uh Mike, there is a huge difference between driving a robot down some stairs and having a robot drrop in the bottom of a half-pipe. On staairs the robot would tumble and wouldn’t hit as hard as it would in a pipe. Trust me I know what it feels like to fall down stairs and to “bottom out” in a half pipe. The pipe was much worse.

I don’t know why that idea just hit me, but that would be cool if we had a competition with flying robots. I don’t know how we’re going to build it but that would be really really cool. Especially to make the drive system better, that way people can’t start early on their drive system. What do you all think?
Well if Dean releases IT at nationals next year then maybe in 2003 IT will be incorporated into the kit of parts. If what everyone is right to believe what IT is, the scooter that can hoover, then there will be no problem to have a Comp with flying-hovering bots!!!
Flying robots are allowed. You just have to make it out of kit parts, making it prettymuch impossible.

I believe there’s an autonomous flying robot competition for college students. I also believe no one’s ever successfully completed the challenge. Then again I could be totally off base on this as I haven’t heard about it in years…

I didn’t think it’d be a hovering scooter. Frankly, I think a hovering scooter is rather silly (why does it need to hover?). And I thought everyone (read as not the media) thought it was a working sterling engine…that’d at least be more useful…
