As many of you know, there is a fall robotics league in Oakland County, Michigan, where students build robots and compete in a series of tournaments that follow the fall sports model. The 22 school league had its first regional tournament at Rochester High School on Saturday, October 21st and here are the results:
1st Place: Oakland Technical Center Northeast, the ‘Juggernauts’ with 60 points.
2nd Place: Rochester High School with 57 points
3rd Place: Avondale High School the ‘Killer Bees, with 51 points.
Avondale actually beat OTCNE in an exciting head-to-head match where they knocked Juggy’s doubler out while being hammered by Juggy underneath the goal in the closing seconds; that move earned Avondale the ‘Best Play of the Day’ trophy. Avondale carried home a lot of other hardware, too, winning the ‘Spirit of the Competition’ and the ‘Creative Engineering’ awards. Rochester was named by the judges for the ‘Beautiful Bot’ award and Brandon won a special Judges’ Award for their creative use of a wood design. In all, 10 teams from 12 schools competed in this first FIRST-styled event. Congratulations to all the participants and everybody is invited to Brandon High School in lovely Ortonville, Michigan, for the next OCCRA regional tournament on Saturday, October 28th at 2 P.M.
