Anyone have experience with the REV ION MAXTube grid pattern extrusions for frame building? Do the internal corner bracing bits make up for the thinness of the material? Any problems with tubes bending or twisting?
I would use the thick version of the grid tube for drive base and members that will receive a lot of force, and the thin pieces for stuff like elevator stages. I don’t think there is a substantial difference in how we would use this over just standard 2x1 stock, except for the convenience of the hole pattern. We have yet to build with it but have had it in stock and will be using it on our robot(s). I’ll be sure to share any additional insights.
Thanks. This will be our first year trying it as well. Also occurs to me that a “full body” bumper set (instead of just corner bumpers) will also help in dealing with any racking or bending forces. We’re also considering “reinforcing” the tubing by bolting 1" angle to the top (and/or bottom) for additional rigidity.
