I’m building a Holonomic drivetrain and I’m using the Rev Ultraplanetary motors with ratios 5:1,4:1and 3:1. In one side I added the ultra 90 degree gearbox as I needed to make space for an intake . I now tried the motors and encountered an issue ,as the motor with the 90 degree gearbox seems to be a bit slower than the other and stop instantly but that I was able to fix it by making the brake to the other motors in the code. Is there a way to fix the speed as I tried reducing the power of the motor by 0.8 but not 100% if I’m doing it good and still when I press the keypad slower or reducing it only the motor without the 90 degree gearbox turns .
Sounds like you might have a mechanical problem – excess friction or binding within the gearbox. Ultraplanetary gearboxes bind if their screws are overtightened, and it doesn’t take much torque to overtighten them.
I would try powering down and rotating both configurations by hand to see if you can feel a difference. If there’s a difference, try taking the right-angle adapter off and see if the extra resistance is in the planetary or the right-angle adapter.
I did notice that before I connected them to the control Hub and thats why I tried to power them. The one with the 90 degree gearbox is very hard to turn by hand unlike the normal one . I think the 90 degree gearbox is adding more torque to the motor. The gearbox(90 Degree) by itself is not hard to turn but it’s not that soft eighter, but as for noise as from what I searched is sounds pretty good .
So, definitely a mechanical problem. Now, you need to isolate it.
If you detach the 90 degree adapter from the rest of the gearbox, does the gearbox feel identical to your other one when you try to spin it by hand?
I have to try that as I didn’t try to spin the motor without the 90 degree gearbox,I just tried to rotate another 90 gearbox and it looks not hard not soft,I will detach the 90 gearbox and see how it turns.
Just dismantled the ultra planetary and reinstall everything again and it worked much better looked like they where mashed up. Will try the other side and see how it goes Thanks
