REV Robotics is proud to Introduce REV ION!

@Greg_Needel not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what’s the inventory of NEOs and Spark Maxes looking like this summer? Since Falcons are seemingly OOS until November, I think a lot of people (myself included) are looking to try NEOs in our offseason projects.

We always do our best to make it so things stay in stock forever. This year with limited electrical component availability, I can’t guarantee that we won’t run out at some point before our fall stock is made. Our main focus at this point is making sure we build and have plenty of supply for the upcoming season.

Will Gates Belts and pulleys from old AM KOPs, fit with the spline hole pattern?

What about AM gears?

I’m not sure if this has been answered already, but how would one constrain a MAXSpline Shaft axially?

It seems you can put the needle bearing inside and then constrain two other shafts inside, but that seems unnecessarily clunky.

Question - the More board is marked as an ION product, but the page also lists that it is no longer in production. Are there any plans for a replacement product?

I’m not a rev employee either but this was in the related products section at the bottom of that page.

I saw that as well. What makes the more board a significantly more attractive option to me, is the ability to easily secure wires to the board w/ the included screw terminals. I’m not particularly trusting in the RIO’s pins, since they can be fiddly and not all that secure.

The proto board would enable the same setup with some soldering work, creating pigtails for each port and all, but that’s solder work and it’s easier to teach a student to use screw terminals than to solder all the connections needed.

I believe you are asking if KOP pulleys and belts will work with the exact C-C of the MAX Pattern in the 2x1 MAXTube. If so, no, those belts have a 5mm pitch so they aren’t compatible with the 2in pitch of the MAX Pattern.

This is the reason we developed RT25. We showed it off at championships, but it’s not on the website yet. 0.25in pitch timing belt that just works in the ION system.

Just FYI we’re developing a collection of application examples and designs that will get released in the near future. Those will help make some of the more nuanced features of ION a little clearer. In addition there are a few products relevant to your question that aren’t on the website yet that are going to be going up soon.

To answer your question specifically, there are a few different possibilities depending on what you’re doing exactly:

First off there are several items that are intended to be inserted in the ends of a MAXSpline Shaft:
Needle Bearing - 3/4in ID - REV Robotics (This part actually has another part that goes with it to keep it from sliding into the MAXSpline Shaft too far, but that part isn’t on the website yet)
Stepped Bushing - 3/4in ID - REV Robotics
MAXSpline Shaft Endcap - 1/2in Hex - 2 Pack - REV Robotics (This turns the MAXSpline Shaft into a large live axle)

If you’re using either of the first two items, the intention is that there is a piece of 3/4 round aluminum tube (another product that’ll be going up on the website soon) going all the way through the MAXSpline Shaft. That tube will usually have a tube nut (#10-32 Tube Nut for 3/4in Dead Axle Tube - Right-hand Threaded - 2 Pack - REV Robotics) pressed into either end and it’ll be bolted between two structural tubes. From there, axial constraining is usually accomplished with a press-on retaining ring (External Retaining Ring - 3/4in - 10 Pack - REV Robotics).

If you are using the 1/2in hex endcap in the MAXSpline Shaft, then axial constraining is just accomplished the same way as any other hex bore component (spacers, shaft collars, etc.).

For some images, see pages 29-30 in this document.

Any updates on the release date? :eyes:
Our team is looking forward to buying the new products to try out for our offseason.

The majority of things are in our warehouse already. We are going through quality checks on everything and preparing the website. Our goal is to have things up within the next 2 weeks if not sooner.

We are super excited to use the new ION products, especially the grid pattern MAX Tube. Currently we can order grid pattern 1x1 light and 2x1 light tubing, but when we select normal 2x1 and grid pattern it says “The selected product combination is not currently available”. Will this option become available later? We prefer using thicker wall tubing for our drivetrain, but don’t want to use tubing without the hole pattern.

Hey Everyone! I am happy to announce that REV ION products are now in stock and shipping now. There are a few missing items from the line up that will be added over the next few weeks.

We did have to make a few price adjustments before we launched as things like aluminum raw materials increased significantly since we started production.

We are looking forward to seeing what you are going to build with REV ION. We will also be announcing our Phase 2 products that will be available closer to kickoff very soon, so stay tuned!

Greg, Any new update on when the Power Distribution Hubs might become available again?

Any idea if those #25 belts/sprockets will be available in phase 2?
Honestly those are the products I’m most excited for, can’t wait to replace chain.

#25 sprockets are already available.

@ChuckDickerson We don’t have enough information to give a firm delivery date yet. We are still optimistic about the fall, but a few things still have to go right in terms of component deliveries.

@cbale2000 RT25 belts are still in the works and we do expect them to launch with phase 2

BTW, FedEx just picked up the first batch of ION orders, we appreciate all of your support!

@Greg_Needel Any idea when we might see an updated list of product offerings (assuming there are any) in the Canadian warehouse?

I’d love to start transitioning our team over entirely to MAX and Ultra Planetaries for all our planetary needs, but I’m currently limited to purchasing only the entire Ultra Planetary kit in Canada, and unable to purchase individual stages or output shafts to suit our needs.

(Also curious to see if any of the new ION lineup will make it’s way up north here)

We are working on this right now, you should start to see additional ION parts on the Canada site in the next couple weeks.

If there are specific requests please fill out this form. Product Request Form

Thanks Greg!

I submitted a product request form for all relevant UltraPlanetary sku’s I could think of a few months back now. Figured it would take you guys some time to sift through those requests and determine what was feasible.
