REV Robotics Neo Brushless Motors Question

I have 4 brand spanking new REV Robotics NEO Brushless Motors and associated motor controllers. My question is can these be used in place of full CIM motors on the AndyMark Kit of Parts Chassis for this season? Will the bolt right in? Has anyone already done this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It has the same mounting pattern however you will need to use a spark max.

I have 4 Spark Max Motor Controllers

Then yes you could use them however I would caution you as these motors seem to have some firmware issues. I would probably wait at least a season for other teams to test them and see how they perform.

Here is a post about some of the problems that 1678 has found with them.

Wow we are only a 2nd year team and spent a pretty good amount of money to get these. I am glad to hear that the motors tested well but if the mandated controllers have issues then the purchase is a wash. At least form a drive base point of view.

Wanted to give this thread an update: The delay that was seen in these tests has been fixed in the latest SPARK MAX Firmware Update

@frcfastteam the bolt pattern for the NEO/CIM is the same. Just be aware when installing them into the gearboxes for the KOP chassis that the motor cables are near the face that mounts to the gearbox. This way you can make sure the cabling is accessible.

Still waiting on the java API release before we place our order

Any update on this thread?

Was there some specific information you were waiting for?

Just would like to know if all the issues with the firmware have been resolved? We are thinking of switching over from cim motors and talons, but before we make the investment we want to make sure issues are resolved.

We got our’s in today and we plan to drive with them. Firmware has been updated to solve most issues with 1678 testing. The upgrade process is simple and they seem to continue to update firmware. I would cation doing a full Talon switch to spark maxes. The talon srx has been battle tested and works well. I would only buy Neo’s and Spark Maxes where necessary. At first look the motors are great light and small adding more room in a Chassis, but it is an expensive upgrade. If you have questions from our testing you can ask and i will get back to you when we do it.

Zack,

Full set of Neos or full set of CIMs? How much faster are one set over the other?

We will be using 4 NEOs 2 in each gearbox
This is the theoretical data we have. We do plan on driving with them.
