Rev Stock Arriving Bent

Have any other teams had Rev MAXtube arrive bent? we had one egregiously bent piece arrive and at least one other piece with a very subtle bend that didn’t show itself until the piece had been cut and assembled. Very disappointed so far considering we paid a premium to buy the fancy predrilled tube. The tubes also shipped to us with 0 protection, just stacked on each other in a box with no shipping material.

Have any other teams had this issue, and has Rev been willing to send replacements quickly? This is at least a week setback for our mechanical subteam.

Yes. Ours travelled probably a total of 20 miles. The corners of all tubes were bent in

You can give them a call or email, but they may be a bit occupied at the moment.

If it was damage from your shipping provider you should also file a complaint with them.

Do you have photos of the damage/bending?

Rev has enough going on right now… Dang.

The story in my head is quality has slipped due to taking on Vex for the increased market share.

In reality: reported issues leads to increasing scrutiny, leads to small issues being found elsewhere.

I hope sufficient resources and what I can only assume is a fair bit of public pressure leads to better QC.

Hang in there REV. We appreciate you. We are just a very picky bunch in general.

Post this on their main thread.

Do you have a post number for that link? That thread is close to 300 replies

Edit. I should go to bed. I can’t read (clearly) and thought this was linking to an existing problem and I scrolled through the main rev thread looking for the issue… My b.

I can say it’s not a posted encountered issue though!

OP,
You will probably be directed to customer support, which seems to be pretty responsive and acknowledged the potential issue (and will follow up). The bottleneck is the engineering team is likely swamped with all the other stuff going on.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for much of an answer and instead would just ask for a replacement if you need long tubes. Bypassing engineering (hopefully).

We just need replacements right now. Will be switching to WCP predrilled tube for future seasons…it’s a shame their line released right after we ordered the MAXtube, we never would have bought maxtube to begin with

Our coach will be in contact with customer service once they reopen tomorrow, hopefully they’re willing to ship quickly. This is a good reminder for all teams using this stock to find a flat surface the moment they receive it to avoid headaches when they cut/assemble.

This sounds like shipping damage. Send us an email and we will replace them. I’m sorry you had this experience, but shipping damage like this does happen from time to time and we always take care of it.

If you have any photos of the outside of the box or how it was packed please send them along as that will help our warehouse improve their process.

[email protected]

Please reach out to support as well. When it comes to package damage the distance things traveled does have an impact, but one driver dropping a box or it being placed under something heavy can cause issues. We generally just replace items that are damaged during shipping and move on.

If you do see any visible damage to any boxes you get from REV when they arrive please take photos as they do help

They arrived packed with 0 protection, 2 stacks of 6 side by side. I would assume you pack them before mailing them out, and if so I would say just a cardboard box with no packing material is a little insufficient. Our coach should be in contact tomorrow, I’m just a student with a Chief Delphi account

Just an fyi other vendors also have patterned tube now too.

In addition to WCP (wide assortment of structure items

There is TTB:

And newcomers:

I haven’t used the tubing from any of these vendors so your mileage may vary.

We are very happy with our TTB grid tube. 7/5 would recommend.

It’s almost like Robotics people count on reality matching the drawing… What a bunch of fools /s

In 2013 we expected the distance from the bottom pyramid rung to the carpet to be exact. Showed up at our first event and it was .25 inch too short, but within tolerances of the field. So we had to redesign so our bumper would clear as we started our 3 level climb. Always assume there will be differences.

We definitely are really picky because we have all seen what happens when you aren’t picky enough. Even a slight bend in a chassis and it’s never going to drive perfectly straight without a bunch of correction on the programming side.

This is one big pro for the KitBot style plate chassis with churro stock spacers. If it was bent, all of the other pieces connecting it side to side will help it flatten out. Depending on how bad a bend is and where it is intended to be used you can “UnBend” it mechanically over time.

I hear Boeing is need of QA staff… /S
