Revealing DAHL | An open-source wild card design for Crescendo

Revealing DAHL - an open-source design for the 2024 FRC game, Crescendo!

I’m now an alumnus of FIRST currently studying as a first-year undergrad student, although I have a bit of free time right now and needed to scratch my CAD itch. Dahl is a no-boundaries “wild card” design that I thought up on kickoff and decided I wanted to bring to a 100% design.

Dahl uses dual under-the-bumper intakes and a pivoting shooter deck for an extremely low-profile design, with only the RSL and battery sticking above 8". This design isn’t the most competitive or easiest to build (by a long shot), but the architecture is definitely one of the most interesting I think possible for Crescendo.

CAD is open-source and absolutely free to use of course. I’ve included all native Solidworks files. I’ve only worked on this project consistently since about last Friday, so sketches may be a bit sloppy . I’ve included below the CAD files and the design notebook, which I highly encourage you to look at.

Although I am an alumnus of FRC 3357, this design was created entirely independently. This design has no direct affiliations with the team and in no way signifies what they are working on.

This is cool, Ben! Does this concept robot have the ability to shoot into the trap?

This is such a cool design and the climbing idea is so unique! It seems like it would be a really good speaker scorer, but does it have a way to consistently make sure the note doesn’t bounce out when shooting up into the amp?

As far as I can tell. There’s no better measure than real-world testing, but there are a few examples of Ri3D teams using a fixed angle shooter to score in the trap within close proximity

Hopes and dreams lmao. You can shoot nearly vertically into the top of the amp pivoting off the back, which I believe most Ri3D teams found prevented bounce outs

I’m in love with the design notebook. Its extremely well put together, and the graphic design is on point. Absolutely beautiful work.

Feel free to copy! I based it off of a design portfolio I worked on a few months ago, so it was relatively copy/paste with some moderate revisions, only ab 2.5 hrs of work
