Reversible Bumpers???

Is anyone using reversible bumpers this year? I know they have been allowed in recent years, just want to check before we start sewing!

Check Question 452 in the Official FIRST Q&A.

We are not doing reversable, just bumper covers. As long as they conform to all of the bumper rules when on the robot there would be no issues with reversable bumpers.

2470 is doing reversible bumpers for the first time this year. I believe 3081 is planning on reversible bumpers as well. We are making them based off of the white paper here on CD.

One of our students worked on designing our reversible bumpers last night, and will be sewing them up tonight and tomorrow. Unfortunately, that’s as long as she gets to finish them, as she leaves for a trip on Thursday. Talk about bad timing!

Thanks for the confirmation, we will start sewing immediately!

Team 2240 are using the reversible bumpers this year. They are a lot more work, but in the end I think they will pay off. We have also made the bumpers easy to get on and off, just in case.

we are doing reversible bumpers. Only took me 8 hours of sewing.

Team 3502 is using “reversible bumpers” because we have had trouble with bumper covers in the past. It is really bad it the corner of the cover gets caught on something and then you start to drive over it…
I don’t know what everyone means by reversible bumpers but we sewed ours so that they have a flap that you just have to flip over.

MOE 365 has sewn reversible bumper covers the past few years. They work extremely well! Currently, our bumper covers are being embroidered with our team number. We should have them back in house later this week for remainder of sewing before we slap them on officially this weekend.

The Green Reapers did this last year and we will never go back. The amount of time an hassles saved was amazing. Especially in eliminations where you would rather fix the robot than change bumpers.

We are doing reversible bumpers for the first time this year.

I have a question for all you guys doing reversible bumpers: what are you doing for bumper numbers? Paint? Sewn-on numbers?

We are trying the AndyMark iron-on numbers and while they originally appeared to be completely adhered, they have started to peel off once we began assembling the reversible bumpers. At this point I am very tempted to just paint the numbers on. Ideas?

This with be the 6th year we’ve used the same screen printer, and the third year for reversible bumpers. I highly recommend finding a local screen printer… try to convince them to sponsor you with free prints for your bumpers!

We used reversible bumper covers last year for the first time. It reduces a lot of stress during the competition and we are doing it again!

We end up painting ours. I’d love to get them embroidered some day, but for now the painting gives our bumper crew something to do after sewing :stuck_out_tongue:

GO FOR REVERSIBLE BUMPERS! it makes changing colors sooo easy, and if we forget in queuing, we just switch the colors on the field. I highly recommend it, since you wont be bringing two sets to competitions every year, and it frees up a good amount of space in the pit. 701 has been doing reversibles since 2010, and we are never going back to having two sets!
