Oh man,
River Rage is probably one of the most exciting competitions that I have been to in a while. There was just full suspense at the end, my team’s alliance (121,151,190) tied both times with the other final alliance twice (Chaos, Dirty Birds, HYPER). The other teams alliance won the first one because they had a better time, than our alliance beat them because we had the better time. Than at the end, it all came down to a couple of black balls.
Anyways, the qualifying rounds were also exciting too, there were a lot of scores between 100-300 points. Highest being 350, I think at one point. And remember this is three robots on the field with team 901 (a.k.a --the stretcher). There were a lot of teams double balancing goals and going all for it.
It was hot as heck, and it was crowded, but man you should have been @ River Rage 5 today.
It was 69, 131, and 213 (213 are the Dirty Birds).
1st match: time (about 5 seconds) gave us the win
2nd match: time (about 3 seconds) gave you the win
3rd match: 1 black ball…ONE.
Possible reason why our alliance didn’t get one more black ball: its all how the balls fall in the goal, and that determines how many. The 11 we got filled the goal completely and over the top, and a 12th ball wouldn’t fit. You had enough room for the 12th ball.
I don’t think it would have mattered–if you went to the end-zone even if you had 11 balls, you still had 9 seconds on us–giving you the win because of time.
Those were exciting rounds, yes. If there weren’t tie breakers, I could see the two alliances battling it out for a while.
Congrats to the winners, and a great job by all that were there I think!
If anyone saw me running around with TJ², I had the giant camera around my neck - and 8 rolls of film later… well, keep your eyes open for pictures once I get Walmart to give me my pictures back
As one of the HOST schools for River Rage 5, we thank all who took part in the event. When you can not start constructing the field until 7 PM the night before the event, you really can get stressed. We welcome any feedback from the participants or volunteers.
I will say that my favorite complaint of the day was that a ball in the player station was too small and the team wanted a larger one in its place!!!
I have a question, i saw a couple of Rhode Warrior people walking around with video camera’s all of saturday. Are you guys making a video of River Rage like you did Battle Cry? Because if you did you have at least one customer.

I remember the time I was taking a break in the seats right behind the computers…and we heard the “error” sound. And then the yellow playerstation wouldn’t work.
I actually got to feel the pressure of something that close from behind the player’s station, and that gives a whole new perspective.

I’ve never seen someone go through so much film.

That’s as close as you can get.

I have no complaints. That was a nice setup you guys had. It was rather hot, but hey, you can’t have everything.
And I’m really suprised no one mentioned the cheap pop in the first round of finals.

I did intend to film the whole River Rage, but a little energy problem force me to only film my team. Up in the balcony there was no electrical outlets anywhere on that entire wall. And I tried to running it down to a pit area, but my adapter cord wasn’t long enough. So I had to run it from my battery. And I only have one. And these are these stupid old batteries that were invented 10 years ago that you can’t recharge them unless they are fully drained. Otherwise they would short out the batteries. Now I should get a new video camera (which my old one is about 11 years old), but I am waiting for the digital ones with optical zooms to come down on price. I mean I am not going to pay 2 grand for something that may be cheaper next year. Now digital ones have much better quality and can be transferred to the computer much easier than AV (analog video).
Anyways I taped only my team, and my battery died when I tried to watch it from my car 5 minutes in. But I remember a lot of people with cameras out on the balcony, one being from 213, if I remember correctly. So if you send a couple of e-mails out there maybe there is a way to get a complete video.
But if some one wants it. I make it. I got some nifty pictures that I can include into it. Plus I have excellent ones (hi-qualuity) of the end with 121, 151, and 190
I did not see Brandon all day. I uploaded the pictures last night at Midnight. So they will be posted soon, as soon as Brandon comes back to check the boards. The pictures came out a little funky, because my camera experienced Renal Proxy failure. This was due to the natural light (the sun), interfering with the uniform artificial light. However I did my best to correct them in Adobe PhotoShop. Anyways I would love to make you a video (give me a private message). Anybody else who is interested I can work out a deal too. If you wanted finals coverage of 131, 69, 213. I would ask 213, because there was a person from that team that was filming right besides me.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be posting the final results of River Rage 5 as soon as my busy college schedule permits. I’ll make a new thread here in the off season forum to announce it once I do.
Thank you to everyone who made River Rage an awsome event!!! I’ve worked on River Rage for the last 5 years…and this will be one of the fondest for me. I hope that River Rage 6 is just as awsome…and all you teams out there will come back for more!!!
Thanks!!!
