RoboRIO Imaging Fail

We are reimaging a roboRIO which has worked for the entire season.
After testing with and without internet connection, with both USB and ethernet connection to the roboRIO, and with the verified correct image version (v19), we cannot resolve this error:

Unable to download image to target. Unable to complete operation because of unexpected error:nisyscfg.lvlib:Format 5.3.vi:2890001<APPEND>

<b>Complete call chain:</b>

RoboRIOImagingTool.lvlib:Reconfig Device.vi
RoboRIOImagingTool.lvlib:ImageManager.vi
RoboRIOImagingTool.lvlib:ImagingToolMain.vi

I guess Windows 7 doesn’t support html tags in it’s error dialogues :stuck_out_tongue:

Usually thats due to you powering down the robot while flashing firmware or image…

you can try booting it in safe mode and imaging it from there but if u get a “software error” message in the webdash than you may have bricked it

If this is the case I would suggest getting NI on the phone. They have ways to turn pieces of clay back into functioning electronics that are not available to teams or even CSAs.

Thanks for the quick replies.
I talked with National Instruments today, I was given an extension to use tomorrow, when a different associate would be there.
If worst comes to worst, I’ll take it to the booth they have at worlds.

With wise choice. If we had access than I’d probably forsee some CSAs (myself… included? ::rtm:: ) following the mindset of “Auton not driving far enough? Reinstall the FPGA on the RIO. Fixed!”

Same thing happened to us when flashing a roborio and it lost power during the process. NI has a process to unbrick using a usb stick to flash firmware, if you call they will help you out.
