Robot Cart Thread

I am planning on making a new robot cart for the team I am on and I am looking for some inspiration. Also, I feel like robot carts are a less discussed part of FRC and I think it would be an interesting thread. Feel free to post pictures of your team’s cart or other team’s carts.

I was actually thinking of trying to do unofficial robot cart awards at next year’s champs. There’s so many cool carts and effort is really put into them. Also a fun little awards ceremony would be so cool.

That’s honestly such a cool idea. I always wondered why there wasn’t some sort of pit design award or something along those lines.

That would be Imagery, possibly several of the engineering awards depending on how things are implemented, and possibly Judges’.

My team had a pretty cool cart, but then it got stolen so we have to make another. It will be even better though!

Something that I’ve found very useful on our cart is having all of the wheels able to swivel independently. Being able to strafe makes it a lot easier to navigate through tight crowds and adjust in the pit.

The most annoying thing were trying to fix are those cable covers, our bot’s riding this tidewave just to get over this small bump on the ground

My team will also be building a new cart as an off season project. I sent students around Houston taking pictures of good ideas they want to use.

I agree there should be an unofficial award handed out with some sort of prize. Maybe an old bowling trophy with the name scratched out and taped over, something funny.

I guess. I was thinking of something more akin to safety all-star. Where teams need to vote for who they think has a better-looking pit area.

Who steals a robot cart

eeeehhhh, that quickly becomes a popularity contest.

we usually filled in 1717 on those because we disagreed with the whole concept.

Nobody is stopping your team from distributing your own awards, and those are honestly more meaningful than the official ones sometimes lol.

I do agree. They are annoying to fill out and most of the teams seemed to ignore them and fill out whoever they knew or just filled out the first team they talked to. I am guilty of this myself.

My idea was to build a “judge panel” and go find the teams that signed up to participate over reddit or here on chief Delphi. Otherwise that’s a lot of carts and not every team cares. The other thing is I wanted to have the same awards frc gives out but cart themed. Cartman’s, EI, quality, design, etc…

Another thing our team is thinking about adding to the next cart is a removable Ethernet cable spool. Something to make tethered practice field time and systems checks faster and easier.

Someone broke into our building in the night and took a bunch of stuff (drills, motors, ect). We think they used the robot cart to hall it all away as we estimate it weighed at least 40lbs.

I’m shocked to hear the handheld spool we have that tangles up constantly isn’t good enough!

I never thought spool bearings could spin “too easily”, boy was I wrong.

Honestly, a used up 3d printer spool worked pretty well for us as a fast-ish solution this season.

Our team is actually also looking to make a new robot cart, such a perfect time to stumble upon this thread! One thing we like is to have a way to fix the driver’s station to the robot cart. We slapped some velcro on for the past few comps and it worked nicely but we’re trying to think of a slightly sturdier/more secure solution. Either way, it’s nice not to have to hold the station onto the cart over bumps n such.

This is FRC Team 1501’s cart
The side LED’s are switchable to show our alliance color.
The part that the robot sits on raises up to allow easy storage.
The shelf that the driver’s station sits on folds down
