I saw a thread on robot clearance on the bottom from last year and people said there were no rules on it but someone on my team thinks we should check again since we want to put big wheels on our robot. So does anyone know if there are any rules on how close the robot base needs to be to the ground? Thanks!
There is a rule on how far your bumpers need to be from the ground. Beyond that, I suggest reading the manual (robot section) to see if there are any rules. If there are no rules, then it’s a design problem for your team to solve.
Excited to have bumpers!
What is this rule? I can’t seem to find it in the Bumper Rules section or the Robot section of the manual.
It’s there–look up the definition of Bumper Zone in R22 or in Section 6.
R21 Bumpers are 5 inches high
R22 Bumpers must be within the bumper zone which begins 4 inches above the floor and ends 12 inches above.
If the bumpers have their top at 12 inches, the bottom will be 5 inches below that or 7 inches above the ground.
If the bumpers are set as low as possible they will be 4 inches at the bottom and 9 at the top.
There are no rules on minimum robot clearance. The bumper rules create a defacto maximum clearance at the perimeter.
There is no reason for a minimum clearance rule. Now, given the game design, there are practical minimum clearances, but nothing in the rules prevent you from building a robot that cannot fully play the game.
