Chris,
During my four years in FIRST our team (Blue Lightning) grappled with this question quite frequently. We always had a problem coming up with a name because we to wanted the name to have something to do with the competition. Actually I think in truth we could never come up with a name we liked so we hoped the competition would help us. I think Hexcalibur was our best name it was named after the hexagon of the field, and our school is the blue knights so we figured excalibur was one of the more famous kinghts’ swords. This past year we just went for the random name of AstroBot2000 and came up with a cute little bolt guy mascot. So there was a time when I would have agreed that the deadline could be moved up and it wouldn’t be a bad idea for it to be…but I think sometimes the most creative names can come without the game or the robot design…and there’s usally quite a storey behind them. But by the same token Hexcalibur it a prime argument in favor or moving the name deadline.
Some thoughts.

Hi…
I can appreciate the teams’ need for the dealine to be pushed back for the reason mentioned as well as others…
The reason the deadline for profiles with robot name and team nickname etc…is asked for so early, is because getting all that (correct) information for 300-400 teams in the programs is quite a feat! FIRST needs time to get all that to the printer and the printer needs time to get it into the program for FIRST to proof and then print the thousands of copies we need…then have it shipped in time to make it to the first regional the first weekend in March! We have printing deadlines, so we have to pass those deadlines onto the teams. I know it’s hard sometimes, but we give as much time as we possibly can so that all the information can get into the programs…we know how important it is for your correct information to make it into the program. It’s great to see your team in the book…so that’s why we can’t push the deadline any further out. I hope that helps!

If our team does not have all the possible information to register? What can we do? How do we go about registering if we do not want to register online, who do we call, our team has an interesting situation, and it is going to be interesting to see how our season pans out.
