Hey I know some teams name their robot or have funny mottos. I would like to know some of the other teams names or mottos.
Our robot is cleverly named by our programers “Crackalackin Metal Gear Kitten Running Homeslise”. This is because they are all fans(obsessed) with the Metal Gear Solid series and cats/snails(from Spongebob) and the other stuff I really have no idea.
As for our mottos, we have three
-Don’t brake anything.
-Don’t suck.::rtm::
-#notlast.
Most of these are from our (in)genius mentor Lordship Bacon. :]
We went a little…adventurous with our robots name this year:
W1N5T0N Woodrow Norbert YOLOtron Humphrey 5th, esq.
We call him YOLOtron for short. Our practice bots name is YOLOtronica.
With a name like that, we of course use the “YOLO” team motto but the perfect formula for our team is “YOLO Kaizen”. We balance being process oriented vs. thinking on our feet to take advantage of opportunities.
For our first 3 years, we had robots that were named like Knights (Sir Lancelot, Sir Galahad, and for some reason Sir Robin, and then this year we just took a way different approach and named our robot Big Mike after Michael Oher, because our 6 CIM drivetrain could at times push 2 robots at once.
The students name the robots after a mentor or parent booster each year.
I’m sure the students have some of their own catch phrases or mottos, some I hear and some I don’t. But I’m sure they would all agree that one I say all the time is
“Do you know how much that costs?”
Usually this is said after someone drops something or uses something expensive for a prototype.
Motto: Cogito ergo robots. (I doubt most of the team knows this, but kids picked it back in 2007).
1551 robot names don’t follow much of a pattern, though since noticing that our robots with female names do better than robots with male names, all of our robots are female. (This year, she’s Isis.)
We have a four syllable, female, name for each of our robots.
This year we named her Persephone… which means “bringer of destruction”. Some of the other students have been calling our practice robot; Hades.
Typically the bot is named after old woman names, but this year we went with Reptar, after somebody on our team said that our pneumatic passive climber looked like a dinosaur
Our team has a Monty Python and the Holy Grail theme. Each year, we name our robot after a different character from the movie. Also, we dress up like King Arthur and the Black Knight, but the killer rabbit is really our team’s mascot all the time.
Two bunnies in the same division…at least a bunny and a killer rabbit. We named ours Cyber Bunny because the student drawn logo has a cybernetic eye. How strange it is going to be if we are side by side in the pits!!!
Our (Haywire, 1569) robot is called Valkyrie and our practice bot was Captain Sidewinder. Unofficially our logo is “It’s good enough.” because that’s all we said while building our practice bot.
