Anyone know which side of the field your robot starts on? It seems from the rule book that robots start on the opponent side… seems odd, anyone else notice it or know for sure that that is the case?
I don’t have the rule reference handy To confirm that this is the case but this is relatively common for shooting games (for recent examples see 2016, 2014, 2013, 2012…).
This is correct.
Your Initiation Line marks your opponent’s Sector. (Section 3.2) Your robots start over your Initiation Line (Section 4.1.2)
that is right. This is because the scoring for your alliance is on the opposite side of the field, so this is why they have you start over there.
Third paragraph of section 3.2
INITIATION LINE: a white tape line spanning the width of the FIELD and located 10 ft. (~305 cm) from the face of PLAYER STATION 2 to the near edge of the tape. An ALLIANCE’S INITIATION LINE is located in the opponent’s SECTOR.
and three paragraphs further down:
SECTOR: A 26 ft. 11¼ in. (~821 cm) wide by 10 ft. 2 in. (~310 cm) deep infinitely tall volume formed by an ALLIANCE’S ALLIANCE WALL, guardrail, and INITIATION LINE. The SECTOR includes the INITIATION LINE.
