Hopefully you all have been watching the robotica marathon on TLC tonight. One was made all out of wood and got shredded. Another was using some Chiaphua motors just like what FIRST gives us. Really cool.:cool:

yep, i watched that, it was quite awesome. and if you noticed, that wood robot was using bosch motors when they showed you the inside of it : )

The one with the steel tank treads uses Innovation First motor controllers as far as I can tell. They also used the same kind of joysticks that we are supplied.

i saw that and i was like…yeah!! go FIRST hehe. i think its cool too how battle bots use the control system

Check out http://www.npcrobotics.com for more and better wheelchair motors. These are very common in Robotica and Battlebots.

If you want to see a really cool motor check out their X-950. 15hp peak, 330A at 48V for a couple of minutes. This thing could eat up the FIRST kit battery pretty fast…

That place has some pretty nice motors. They also link to a place selling the Innovation FIRST Victor 883 Speed Controls. They claim the Victors can handle two motors and up to 30 Volts!! :eek: Another cool thing is that since they are PWM, you could use one in an RC car with a bunch of batteries and a hot motor to make it silly fast.

If we took our robot and put the pillow blocks under the frame rails for more ground clearance, switched out the grabbers on our arms for blades, and slapped in another battery, we would have a full fighting robot. We could even mount a couple of cheap 12V cutoff tools on our arms, now that would be fun. :stuck_out_tongue: I think most non-ball-handling FIRST bots could make excellent Battlebots/RobotWars/Robotica robots with a little work.

Rumor is that Dean asked them to change their name for their non-FIRST enterprise.

They made a special 24V (~30V) version of the Victor a while ago, and their HV version will be capable of handling 60V.

Nope…according to the spec sheet for our version of the Victor controllers…

Victor Operating Voltage: 6V to 15V (does not include the fan)

Actually I’m almost certain that he asked ifirobotics.com to stop selling their esc’s and controllers to anyone related to battlebots and the such.
Btw it’s quite funny but some of the speed controllers voltage rating depend of which fan you get. It says for the victors (the radio controlled ones) that its 12v only when you get the 12v fan and 24v when you buy a 24v along with the esc.

"12V’ Victors are not capable of 24V. Some of the first models of the 24V Victor were labeled 12V for lack of new casings, but you only got these if you specifically ordered them.

15V is the max voltage a “12V” Victor can handle. But unlike current ratings, the voltage rating is hard and fast. Freshly charged 12V batteries can deliver more voltage so it’s a good idea to not use any higher voltage battery.
