For the past 2 national competitions i’ve seen some awesome dancers. But this weekend at UTC I was blown away. My friends and I from 236 were working the LEGO booth and we met up with 4 of the best dancers we’ve ever seen in our lives. They were Paul from 228, OJ from 228, Andre from 237 and Seth from 121. All I see are people running around and busting moves. I’m sure you’ve all seen our Tick Dance or we’ve made you do it. This makes me think, does Robotics automatically make a person a good dancer?
i dont think so… im alright (from what ive been told by honest friends)… and there is one kid that can not dance for his LIFE on our team… its kind of sad haha… and ill tell seth you said that (he doesnt have an account)
I’m a terrible dancer, but I guess being with other FIRST people who are just like me makes me care less about embarassment, so much that the guy in charge of video on my team included me making a fool of myself dancing in a recent promo video for the team. Ah! I can’t help it. I’m reserved all other times…
Guess that answers why there are so many good dancers in FIRST. Some people end up being far less embarassed, therefore go nuts.
I’d have to agree… it seems as though there are a lot of people who are quite gifted when it comes to dancing. I only wish that i could have seen OJ perform his split…
I should warn you though, at the UTC regional i went up to the MC with a few fellow ticks and paul from gus, to ask him if the mascots could come up and all do the tick dance during one of the dead times. He then told us that there is an acutal rule against dancing!
The White Boy Dance, is the king of all Dances, and the King of the White Boy Dance is ME!!! seriously, just ask anyone at NJ regional, i was the large volunteer that was dancing to everything and at annapolis, anyone at the dinner at the Radison knows my mad skilz yo
I think we all dance b/c we dont care what the others are thinking since we are having a good time. Then again, I’m one of two people on my team that dance…
Aww, I see you mentioned Andrey, but not me. I guess he’s just the better half. ;). Being pretty challenged in the coordination department kind of sucks- guess I should just stick with soliciting the Stump Julie (rubix cube) game, and cross my fingers that he doesn’t plan on taking the robot to prom instead of me…
Did you see the little girl with the Afro from Gaelforce? She had plenty of guts. :).
I’d have to agree with Andre’s dance, it’s pretty awesome, but I have firsthand knowledge that robotics does not a good dancer make. Try looking for me (FIRST-e, The Dynamos’ mascot) at the next competition. I’ll prove your theory wrong without even trying I hope to learn, but for now, I just flail and pretend I know what I’m doing
Oh yeah, if you wanna see dancing check out my breakdancing to vanilla ice’s Ninja Rap…ok maybe not…lets say that Dexy’s Midnight Runners have a better chance of reforming, putting together a new album and bringing down the “Hip-Hop” dominance era…
I think that the rason so many people that are involved in robotics dance because a FIRST competition is a place where people can jsut be them selves. Most students are rather reserved because they are usually worried about their “image” when they are at school or other places. Thats one thing that I think is great about the FIRST orginization, they let “closet” nerds/geeks be themselves as well as let people who love making fools of them selves (namely me) have fun and let loose. BTW did anyone who was at GLR see those guys from Tech-Fusion(0279) dancing, they were the best!
On a lighter note, wow I can’t dance! Ask anyone who was at the Great Lakes Regional,(I was the guy in the cape and beanie[my temporary excuse ofr a mscot unifor] that always had the camera) when I was trying to dance with the mascotts, wow that was too fun. Good times, good times.
