Robotics Recognition in MICHIGAN Schools

Hi!

If you could take this SHORT google questionnaire on recognition of FIRST in the Michigan School System.

This is for High School FRC/FTC teams. This data will be used to help bring more recognition of robotics during our schools graduation ceremony.

Thank you!!! :-))))

4810 has been in a struggle with administration for cords for quite some time now. We believe that ALL students and ALL teams should be represented for their work.

At our IB school, only 4 other clubs get cords. None of these clubs are STEM related and do not put in nearly as much effort as we do. We think this would be a great opportunity for our school.

I think an important metric to capture with this is the club size and percentage of study body in the club. Are the 4 other clubs larger in size than your team? For example, my senior year we had about 15-20 seniors on our team out of about 500 in the graduating class. Our school let us have cords, but were probably more lenient in regards to them. All we really had to do was set a standard that a participating senior had to meet in order to earn a cord. It would be cool to see what the general threshold in terms of student body participation is for teams to be recognized. There might also be a difference between public/private/charter schools.

Our Team can earn a varsity letter. We do not get to wear cords, but I don’t think any of the other clubs do either.

We fought with our school on this for awhile. Finally got them to cave. I spoke with Lexi for the MISD open house. Tell her to give me an email and I’ll see if I can help out. Thanks again. : [email protected]

Our school recognize cords at graduation and since last year we issue a varsity letter.

Makensure you build a strong requirements to obtain such thing so they realize that it is not easy to get.

I recommend Bedford Express FRC #1023 web site as a starting point. They also did a lot of work to promote robotics across MI schools.

In my senior year, our lead mentor bought all the seniors FIRST cords as a graduation present. Our administration was notoriously strict about graduation attire, including cords and such, so I went the route of not asking and just wearing them. Quite a few administrators asked about them, but I was never asked to take them off.

Thank you all so so so much for filling this out!

The survey is still open :-)))
