Robotics Statistics Correlation Project

Hello FRC community.

Two members from FRC Team 4557, The FullMetal Falcons, are collecting data for a statistics project. We are looking for responses from any student currently on an FRC team. The survey should not take very long to fill out, and is anonymous. We just ask that you are honest in your responses. If you have any questions just reach out over Chief Delphi and we will be happy to answer.

Here is the link to the survey: https://goo.gl/forms/yNfp5NA7h9S4XwH63

Thank you for your help!

Not a student, but a parent of three students in recent years. I did not respond, but did go over to see the questions.

  • Their answers to questions 2 and 3 would likely have been four different answers for the first week after game reveal, next ~3 weeks of build season, the two weeks leading to bag, and the weeks between bag and competition.
  • Even for the last two questions, containing “average”, is “build season” to be considered reveal-to-bag, or reveal-to-final-competition, if the team continues to iterate on one or mechanisms or at least do drive practice with a second robot between bag and competition? (Every year, even rookie year, 3946 has always iterated on **something **
    after bag).

Also not a student. As a mentor I would be interested in seeing the results. I know how most of my students would respond but…

Interesting survey. Can you post the results? I know a lot of people would want to see them.

And as always with surveys on CD, it’s important to note that these will at best represent the CD community not FRC as a whole. That usually means they have a bias towards better team performance, longer working hours, larger budgets, etc. That’s not to say that the results aren’t valuable, but any conclusions you draw from them can’t be extended to represent the entire FRC community.

A very important distinction. Has there ever been any statistics on the difference between the Chief Delphi population and the FIRST POPUULATION?

Teams that advance further in playoffs are vastly over-represented on CD relative to the whole FRC population:
