My friends and I (all of whom were on team 166) are hosting a Rock Band Marathon starting Friday, August 1st at 3:00PM that will continue all the way until Sunday, August 3rd.
There were be a live stream running the entire time of our group playing Rock Band for 48 hours straight.
Why, you might ask?Child’s Play is a charity organization founded to help raise money for children’s hospitals across the US. Up until August 4th we are accepting donations. All of which go to the Child’s Play organization.
How can you help? You can visit our marathon website and donate to Child’s Play. Any small amount of money is greatly appreciated. You can spread the word and get friends to donate. You can also register on our forums and request songs to be played! We’ll have a song list up very soon.
Why are we doing this? We are doing this to raise money for Child’s Play while having some fun doing it. Also, the idea of coming up with an idea, planning it, creating a website for it, advertising it, and executing it is incredibly thrilling.
Also, if you have a copy of Rock Band and an X-box Live account, there’s a possibility that you will be able to play with us or challenge one of our band members. I will take anyone at guitar.
The website will be updated with more information about the feed itself in the coming weeks. There’s already a little bit of information, including a link to information about the event that inspired it all. The Super Mario Marathon.
You mean like the Ion Drum Kit? https://www.drumrocker.com/images/slides/set_2_lg.jpg
Not to mention you can play “almost all” the disc songs form Rock Band 1 as well. And 20 more songs will be released for free via DLC during the upcoming holiday season. They originally wanted 100+ songs on the disc, but won’t be able to get all 100 integrated into the game by release, thus the free DLC.
With 100 songs, +~58 RB1 disc songs, +>200 DLC songs (172 as of 7/15, with 3+ new ones each week), the Rock Band 2 library will be by far the most extensive ever in a rhythm game.
There aren’t a bunch of new features, but they have made numerous improvements upon Rock Band 1. No more “band leader”, you can move your characters between instruments, battle of the bands, quick-play customizable setlists, and career mode improvements will make the game even better. Additionally, it has actual built-in drum lessons to help players expand into play actual drums, as well as the ability to play drums over mp3s ripped to your console.
Well… the Ion drum set is a little expensive and I’m not that serious about it.
One of my friends (the main drummer for our Rock Band) probably will get it. He’s wanted an electric drum set for quite a while. This is a very inexpensive solution.
Since Rock Band 2 is coming out in September, I’m wondering if I should even bother bringing the drums I already have to school with me.
I pretty much love Harmonix for allowing most of the Rock Band songs to be backwards compatible. I just really hope we can do Band World Tour online… I’m going to Purdue, our drummer is going to RPI, our bassist and vocalist are going to Umass Lowell. So, getting us together to work on our Leaderboard rankings will be kind of difficult. By the way, we’re almost in the top 100 for Band Career Score. I think we’re 113th at the moment.
Just beware about the Ion set, you still have to buy a separate brain in order for it to be a stand-alone electronic set. It is definitely directed at the Rock Band-ers that want to get into real drums though (along with the lessons and mp3 playovers).
And yes, World Tour is online now!
Beware, the rankings will be even harder with that though. Once upon a time one of my bands was 5th on Welcome Home (with only 3 members!), now we’re like ~60 (with a higher score and 4 members). My most successful band has only 2 members, so we don’t really go for rankings (gold stars are good enough for us ).
I forget what our rank is for Welcome Home, but we’re #1 for Roxanne, Don’t Cha Stop, and You’re All I’ve Got Tonight. I’m not sure what our highest rank is of the songs that are on the disk.
But yeah, the ranks will get harder. All of the elite players will come together and dominate the boards.
