Rocky Mountain Region Sponsorship Opportunities with Energy Day and Chevron!

Hello Colorado FRC Teams,

For the past several years, your team has had the opportunity to participate in Energy Day and the Kendrick Castillo Memorial Tournament (KCMT), bringing your robot and students to East High School in Denver and doing a fun outdoor tournament to share your love of robotics and FIRST with the larger community. This year, Energy Day will include a special public demonstration and skills challenge (separate from KCMT, which will be a full off season tournament, separate from Energy Day), along with an opportunity to earn sponsorship dollars for your team. The event will be sponsored by Chevron, one of the major Energy Day contributors, and sponsorship dollars will come from the Consumer Energy Education Foundation, which produces Energy Day Colorado. Chevron will field a team of judges to choose three Colorado (or surrounding Rocky Mountain states) teams to sponsor in the amount of $2000 per award, in the following categories:

  • Community Service
  • Promising Performers
  • Judges’ Choice

The CEEF Community Service Sponsorship recognizes the team that best demonstrates a positive impact in their community, using their FIRST Robotics team as a tool for meeting the needs of their neighbors. This impact does not necessarily need to be FIRST related, but it needs to be measurable, and clearly documented.

The CEEF Promising Performers Sponsorship recognizes the team that, throughout the 2021/22 school year (and into the beginning of the 2022/23 school year) has most clearly shown growth in their professionalism, preparedness, and performance in FIRST competitions, both official and unofficial.

The Chevron Judges’ Choice/CEEF Sponsorship recognizes the team that, in the estimation of the Chevron judges, shows unique and wonderful character. This award covers performance and service, but also includes things like partnerships, tie-ins with school, or anything else that demonstrates how special this team is.

In order to be considered for one of these awards, teams need to meet the following requirements:

  • Submit a video between 2-3 minutes in length, describing their team’s 2021/22 season and school year. For those of you familiar with the Chairman’s Award process, this video is very similar (you could even submit your Chairman’s video). This will be submitted by creating a YouTube video and sending the link and original video to [email protected]. Note: files over 10mB should be sent via a shared folder (this also applies to the videos described below).
  • Submit two short (15 seconds, 30 seconds max) TikTok videos of their team, highlighting (in one) the team’s growth in competition, and (in the other) the team’s community work. These videos and video links need to be submitted to [email protected].
  • Fill out and submit the attached Google Form.
  • Attend in person, from 11am-3pm, with team members and your team’s robot, the Energy Day Festival on September 24th. While there, your team will enthusiastically interact with the public and with the Chevron representatives who have considered your application.
  • Be prepared to accept the sponsorship money ON SITE during Energy Day in a special awards presentation. This will include a giant “check” and will be filmed and publicized.

Deadline for submission is midnight, Friday September 9th.

If you have any questions, please submit them to [email protected].

Good luck!

Just a quick question.
Is there a requirement for awarded teams to be participating in KCMT, or will non-participating teams also be considered for these awards?
