My team recently won the Rookie All-Star Award at the Hatboro-Horsham MAR District Event. We found out that it only allows us to qualify for RAS at the MAR District Championship, and does NOT allow us to compete with our robot at the District Championship. (I gotta admit, that was not what I was hoping for…)
If we win Rookie All-Star at the District Championship, would this only qualify us to win that specific award at Worlds? Or does it legitimately allow us to compete fully with our robot in Worlds?
Yes, however, if your team qualifies for the MAR District Championship through MAR Ranking Points, you will be eligible to compete with your robot there as well.
Winning Rookie All-Star at the MAR District Championship would allow you to compete with your robot at the World Championship.
Congrats on a District Rookie All-Star Award! As Hallry said you will need more ranking points to be able to actually compete with your robot at your District Championship, however if you advance to Worlds via a Rookie All-Star at your District Championship you will be able to compete at Worlds as if you were any other team there (except you cannot compete for the Chairman’s Award). So therefore at Worlds you would compete in Qualification matches, hopefully playoffs, and still be eligible to win any award at Worlds.
Remember that Rookie All Star award earns you 8 points. As a Rookie you also get a one time 10 point bonus. You still have a chance to win other awards at your next event.
That 10 point rookie bonus exists to make it more likely for rookies to attend the DCMP with their Robot. The fact that RAS is worth 8 points instead of the 5 points that most awards earn is also to intended to make it more likely that rookies attend DCMP with their Robot.
