Could we get some ideas on practicing driving? I don’t know what the field is like, but the classroom tile isn’t the best.
We do a few different things.
-
move all of the tables out of the way in the classroom, or tip the tables onto their sides creating a barrier around the room.
-
go out into the hallway
-
go out to the parking lot
-
go to the cafeteria
Be careful because depending on the wheels on the robot you may end up scuffing the floors. The high traction wheels on the mark 4Is leave nasty black streaks on tile that are pretty terrible to get out.
another thing to do is call around to different teams in your area. A number of teams setup practice fields or spaces and grant access to other teams. Some local businesses might be willing to do the same.

You can find drawings and Cadd models of the field and team built field elements here:
Best of luck to you. Rookie year can be really hard. The learning curve is pretty steep.

If you are looking for a space to practice at you will want to contact your Senior Mentors, or Program Delivery Partners. Looks like based on your team number you are in Indiana.
Senior Mentors:
Lori Langley [email protected]
Kyle Heaton [email protected]
Program delivery partners:
Daniel Leathers [email protected]
Robert Osborne [email protected]
Ashley Robbins [email protected]
They should know local teams who can provide you a space to practice
Definitely something to consider!
Not sure if they are on chief but
-Hatchet Robotics 8116 (Washington, In) is the only team I am fairly confident has a place with carpet. Bit far from you but they have some great mentors who are really accommodating.
-Disco Ducks 8564 (Princeton, In). Much closer to you and they held a district event last year. They probably have space or could provide some general assistance.
-Thunderbots 7657 and Huskies on Hogs 7454 are both out of Evansville. Both teams have quickly dove in and built some great robots.
-Castle Robotics 6498 are in Newburgh but would definitely be accommodating. A lot of knowledge and friendly mentors and students on that team.
It’s possible I missed a team but they are all awesome to work with.
Don’t have contact info for them but Chris Osborne (email in previous post) would. Chris is a fanatic asset as well. If you are ever in need, he will find a way to help.

Good luck this season!
