For the 9" wheels that came with the kit of parts, does anyone know of any great rubber or other synthetic material which can be glued/stapled/screwed/etc onto the wheels in strips? I’m looking for something with grip comparable to that of Skyway wheels.

I’m not sure if you know this but the 9" ones in the kit ARE Skyway Wheels.
Search McMaster Carr for Incline Conveyor belting. There is also Brecoflex (a catalog came with the manual) You might be able to pick up some other kind of rubber floor matt material perhaps at your LHS (Local Hardware Store)
Keep in mind you don’t want too much traction or you won’t be able to turn.
We’ve done this for 4 years. If you can have a machinist cut the existing tread off the wheels to make their surface flat, then screw on conveyor belting , you get GREAT traction. Yes, you can’t steer as well if using tank- type steerring, but it’s not been a true problem.
Good luck!
neoprene.
'nuff said.
soft rubber with major traction…
