Rule G402 Clarification - Opposing Cargo in Autonomous?

We had a quick question about Rule G402 -
“*CARGO: use as directed. ROBOTS may neither deliberately use CARGO in an attempt to ease or
amplify the challenge associated with FIELD elements nor deliberately strand opponent CARGO
on top of a HANGAR or HUB.”

Does the bolded part mean that you are not allowed to interact with the opposing alliances cargo during autonomous? G402 only states that you can’t purposely amplify the challenge.

There is nothing in g402 that prevents contact with opponents cargo during autonomous.

But there may be OTHER rules about what you can do during auto…

are you allowed to shoot the opposing teams cargo?

The best thing for you to do here is go to the game manual and do a ctrl+f for “CARGO”

As you’ve got a variety of concerns about how you can handle the CARGO, it’ll help to go through those rules and get a good feel. I’d even encourage taking notes so you can get back to the relevant rules faster.

There are rules about how you can interact with the opponent’s CARGO.

Yes, as long it is the cargo on your side of the center line.

Technically, you could grab the “scored and returned” cargo on the other side of the line, but good luck with that.

G201 prevents going on to the opposite alliance’s side during auto. So that means you could only shoot the opposing cargo from your side; but that’s kind of pointless because the opposing alliance wouldn’t be allowed to come to your side to get that cargo anyways.

They will have to eventually – likely immediately after auto if they are smart. I’d be surprised and disappointed if we don’t see a team interact with opponents cargo in auto week 1.

That is not true. The only rule that affects what you can do on the opponents side during auto is G210, which states that you cannot touch cargo (that is still in position as staged) on your opponents side of the field, and cannot touch opponent robots.

G210 During AUTO, no defense. During AUTO, a ROBOT with any part of its BUMPERS on the opposite
side of the FIELD (i.e. on the other side of the CENTER LINE from its ALLIANCE’S TARMACS) may
contact neither CARGO still in its staged location on the opposite side of the FIELD nor an
opponent ROBOT.

Sorry I misremembered and mistyped the rule. My point still somewhat stands though, although I do agree with @XaulZan11.

Meaning that, for the vast majority* of teams, crossing the CENTER LINE during auto is a mistake.

Even worse, the fingers of one thumb, zero

I started to say that, but after Lockdown, I think that 254 can do this.

It has been done.

Maybe we’ll see a cooperative auto where each alliance passes that near cargo to the opposite robot.

Or I can imagine that an offseason might just allow all your alliances cargo on your side of the field.

I haven’t heard much though about alliances sharing cargo to the better shooter.
