As I’ve recommended in other similar threads, you can power some LEDs from the VRM but I would advise against it. You really should power LEDs and any other peripherals (like the rpi) using a buck-boost converter in a PDP branch circuit. You don’t want to power it from the VRM because a short there could take down your radio for the rest of the match. The voltage directly from the PDP will vary from 7-13V during the course of a normal match, which is why you need a voltage converter/stabilizer. We use something like this one successfully. It should be strong enough to power both the LEDs and the rpi to control them.
