Running out of disk space on the Classmate...

We are a veteran team (2485), so we installed the new cRIO image for 2011. We have installed the Classmate update, and our Windows 7 is now validated.

I then went on to install Labview and the FRC Tools, but it complained about a lack of disk space. I uninstalled everything (Firefox, Internet Explorer, OpenOffice), but eventually, I had to stop the installation because there was no more space left.

We have 17.7 MB left of free space.

What are we doing wrong?!

You’re trying to install LabVIEW etc. on the 2010 Classmate, that’s what. :stuck_out_tongue:

You might be able to modify the reimaging USB drive to give you another few gigabytes. There are a couple of threads about keeping the “recovery partition” from eating up so much space.

There’s a semi-easy way that takes about an hour, hour and a half. You will, however, need an external USB CD drive.

You can move the partitions with a tool called GParted (it’s a live Linux distribution). There’s one large one you should be able to delete, however it’s only important to keep the one marked “Boot” and the other which is your data (the boot partition should be really small).

Afterwards, the MBR table will be messed up (and the computer won’t boot). Grab a torrent of the Windows 7 32-bit Recovery CD, and pop it in. You’ll get a command prompt, run:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

And you’re done, and have about 5GB back.

Easiest way to get that space back is here - link.

From KOP website, easy to follow instructions, you’ll have to re-image the classmate and update/activate everything, which is a pain, but even our classmate runs better after we did it (1gb ram + <800MBs of space left = page file errors).

PS: Don’t mind Alan, he’s just a bit…prejudice against the poor Classmate. :frowning:
