Hey, me and a teammate are in an FRC internship at a local highschool right now and I wanted to ask a silly but important question. Would a reflective safety vest work with a limelight? Asking for a friend of course :flushed:

If the vest reflects light shone at it…yeah, it’ll track it.

Disclaimer, more for my own sake: Don’t program the robots to chase people around

Thanks, all I’m going to say is as long as you aren’t wearing reflective you’ll be fine. This is all hypothetical and in Minecraft, trust me

Reflective vests like you describe are not allowed around the field for this very reason. There is legend of a photographer wearing a safety vest at a tournament that caused problems with robots tracking them.

Yes. I was at an event where one of the teams had safety vests for their drive teams, and had to modify them on-site (or stop wearing them) to prevent them from reflecting back at robots on the field, as it was affecting opponents tracking capabilities.

And why? The first time a FRC robot travked something, it was targeting a hawaiian shirt worn by a NASA person, and following him…

Apparently FRC365’s shirts at the time were also highly used as vision tracking targets.

(Somewhat of a joke, but actually happened. Don’t actually track people.)

Really? I wore one all year to four events and didn’t get any talking at all from field, Safety or anyone else about it.
