Scheduled Maintenance (12/23)

I’m going to update Discourse and install a few plugins Saturday (12/23) morning, there will be a bit of site downtime as that happens.

I’ll reply here before I start and again once it’s complete.

Should we expect some new reactions once it’s done?

What version are we moving to, and what are the plugins?

Hopefully my CD withdrawal symptoms aren’t that bad…

But how will I get my badge for being on CD for everyday

Adding on to @Zatack7 s question, is the component for copying a post with a button click an option? Would love that when on mobile. CD threads and post have great info but it’s not easy to highlight and copy the entire post, especially long ones.

I don’t expect the site to be down for very long.

Upgrading to the latest tests-passed version of Discourse (3.2.0.beta3, we’re currently on 3.2.0.beta2-dev).

Installing these 2 plugins, created by @grahamsh :

Very nice! Is the onebox cached or reloaded every time? Asking because of team updates

@grahamsh is the one to ask

Updated regularly if I recall the discussions correctly. There’s threads on the topic where that concern was brought up. <24 hours to update, might be as low as 1 hour depending on exact timing. I just don’t recall the specific schedule.

These are amazing additions. Will hopefully save a lot of cropped screenshots on my phone. Thanks Brandon and Graham

YAY!

Oneboxes are updated fairly often, but I’m not sure exactly how it works, but the rules database is updated daily at 5:15 PM EST, so after any rules changes would have happened.

Is it possible to use something more Markdown-y for the onebox generation? Perhaps something like !h312.

Bold of you to assume that Rule Updates are published by 5:15 PM EST on Tuesdays/Fridays…

Very bold. Based on the times I got the email notification of a team update in my mailbox (which may not be the first system that gets updated, but I think is around the same time as the PDF is published), in 2023:

n=21
Mean: 5:07 pm
Median: 5:28 pm
Earliest: 12:13 pm
Latest: 9:51 pm

I know the manual says that their goal is 5pm, but I think that’s just wishful thinking on their part that they won’t be working late all through the season…

I absolutely admire the fact that you have this data so readily available!

Well, all I had to do was

  1. Search my email for “Team Update”
  2. Spend a few minutes hunting in vain for an easy way to export the table of times from Thunderbird
  3. Give up and decide that just typing in the 21 times into a spreadsheet would be faster.
  4. Use the spreadsheet’s average, median, min, and max functions.

I was waiting for a build to finish anyway.
